The event will gather leading health journalists and experts. Sessions will cover data resources, treatments and vaccine development, health workers and vulnerable populations, COVID-19 and influenza, and more.

Regular registration costs US$50. Participants must be AHCJ members. Membership starts at US$30 for students and international journalists.

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) is accepting entries for its competition. The 2020 award will highlight stories that explore the intersection between Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and COVID-19.

CABJ accepting candidates for Media startup training [Canada]

Black journalists can apply for this program.

The Canadian Association of Black Journalists (CABJ) is accepting candidates for the CABJ Media Startup Bootcamp, a program that helps Black media entrepreneurs and content creators.

The program offers resources to bolster or start up participants' own digital media publications. The courses will be available Nov. 1 to 20.

Program graduates will have the opportunity to apply for the CABJ Startup Grant. Five grantees will receive CAD5,000 each.

The program is free for CABJ members based in Canada. For Black journalists outside of Canada, each course costs CAD55.

Film Festival accepting entries [MENA]

Documentarians from the Arab world can submit their films to this event in San Diego.

The San Diego Arab Film Festival (San Diego AFF), a project of nonprofit KARAMA, will take place June 18 to 20 and 25 to 26, 2021. 

The festival strives to present top-quality films that offer honest and realistic portrayals of the peoples of the Arab world, their culture, history and politics.

Applicants can submit narrative, documentary, experimental and animated films, both features and shorts, produced between Jan. 1, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2020. 

Films must have English subtitles unless there is little or no dialogue. 

Selected films will be entered into a competition for audience awards for best feature film and best short film.

The deadline is Jan. 15, 2021.

CENOZO offers training on data journalism [Africa]

Women journalists in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger can apply to take part in this training program.

The Cell Norbert Zongo for Investigative Journalism in West Africa (CENOZO) is looking for participants for a new training program on data journalism and data analysis that aims to facilitate the inclusion of women in investigative journalism in the region.

Candidates must be interested in data and have three to 10 years of experience. They must have published at least one large-scale report or investigation and have a new investigative project in the works.

Free Press Unlimited supports crowdfunded journalism [Eastern Europe]

Teams of journalists from eight countries can apply for this cross-border, collaborative program.

Press Start, Free Press Unlimited, Free Press for Eastern Europe (FPEE), and the Prague Media School have launched the project “Enhancing audience-supported collaborations for empowered media and societies,” co-funded by the European Commission.

The program will facilitate collaboration between journalists from Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic and Greece. 

Selected teams will develop their collaborative journalism skills, network with journalists and get their project financed through crowdfunding on the Press Start crowdfunding platform.

Greenberg seeks fellows [Worldwide]

Midcareer professionals whose work is focused outside the United States can apply for this fellowship in New Haven, Connecticut.

Yale University’s Maurice R. Greenberg World Fellows Program brings innovative, multidisciplinary thinkers and doers from around the world to Yale for four months, from mid-August to mid-December 2021.

The fellowship provides a chance for professionals to step back from the intensity of their work to reflect, learn and be challenged both academically and personally.

Fellows receive a stipend to cover the costs of living in New Haven, a furnished one- or two-bedroom apartment, medical insurance and round-trip travel from their home country.

Stanford offers fellowship for democracy, development [Worldwide]

Journalists involved in their country's economic and political development can apply for a summer fellowship at Stanford University.

The Draper Hills Summer Fellowship on Democracy and Development is a three-week program that brings together 25 to 30 midcareer professionals in the field of democracy, development and the rule of law, especially those from developing countries.

The 2021 program is scheduled for July 18 to Aug. 6 in Stanford, California. The fellowship provides a forum for emerging leaders to connect, exchange experiences and receive academic training through seminars, academic readings and classroom-based curriculum.

The university covers travel, accommodation, living expenses and visa costs. 

The deadline is Jan. 11, 2021.
