La Marea hosts online workshop on investigative journalism [Latin America, Spain]

Anyone can register for this online course in Spanish.
La Marea will host a course on investigative journalism 10 a.m to 1 p.m. on Sept. 22.
Journalist Antonio Maestre will teach theoretical and practical skills to produce a report based on documents, archives and research.
Registration is ongoing until spots are filled. The cost is EUR70.

Photojournalism grants available [Worldwide]

Photojournalists and students interested in working on photo assignments can apply for a grant.
Reuters organizes a photojournalism grants competition.
Up to eight winners will receive US$5,000 each to advance their abilities and tell new stories. Pictures taken by the winners will be distributed on Reuters News media platforms.
Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old. They must submit a CV, a cover letter and a portfolio with 35 to 50 pictures. Check out last year’s recipients here.
The deadline is Nov. 15.

AEJMC offers grants for journalism research [US, Canada]

Journalism educators can apply for a grant to research a timely and innovative topic in mass communication.
The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) offers the Emerging Scholars Program and Senior Scholars Grants. The organization will award up to four US$3,500 research and teaching grants to AEJMC members, in addition to up to two US$5,000 grants to senior scholars.
The program seeks junior faculty members without tenure or media professionals who recently began full-time work at a university. Each scholar will be paired with a mentor to provide guidance throughout the project.
AEJMC will showcase initial results from 2019 grants during a session at its 2019 conference in Toronto, Canada. In addition to the grant, scholars will receive US$500 to assist with travel expenses to the conference.
The deadline is Oct. 1.
