Cultural actors, including filmmakers, visual journalists and writers, across the Arab world can apply for grants.

Culture Resource has launched its program “Wijhat” (Destinations), which offers grants of up to US$8,000.

The grants are intended to support the travel to festivals and training events within the Arab region and internationally, allowing grantees to present their works to diverse audiences, to exchange knowledge and expertise with peers and to build their professional capacities.

The program covers ticket and visa costs, accommodation and partial support for living expenses.

The deadline is May 15.

TV reporting training open [Worldwide]



Journalists who want to improve their broadcast reporting can attend this online training.

Poynter, with support from CNN, will host "Virtual TV power reporting" Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 2 to 25.

Participants will learn how to effectively tell complicated visual and non-visual stories for TV; techniques to gather information from interviewees even when they are reluctant to talk; conduct ethical decision-making on a deadline; demonstrate principles of photojournalism in their work and communicate and collaborate with photojournalists; and produce powerful  stories that engage audiences.

The cost is US$99. Members of minority organizations in the U.S. are eligible for scholarships to cover 50%. Journalists in financial need can also request a discount.

The deadline is May 21.

RNRF seeks reports on natural resources [US]



Journalists who write about natural resources can apply for an award.

The Renewable Natural Resources Foundation (RNRF) offers the Excellence in Journalism Award to advance public education and understanding of important natural resource issues through the dissemination of accurate and scientifically based information about the environment. 

The contest recognizes print or online work by an individual, group or organization, including an online report or article/feature in a newspaper, magazine, journal or newsletter.

Works must have been published in 2019.

The winner will receive a plaque at an award ceremony. 

The deadline is May 31.

Fundraising initiates for Media projects open [Russia]


Journalists, bloggers and independent media can use this platform to raise funds for their projects.

7x7 online magazine and the Alliance of Independent Regional Publishers (AIRP) have launched the crowdfunding platform for the media "Power of the word".

The platform helps journalists and bloggers to raise money for their projects and allows readers to support independent journalism and draw attention to important problems in their local communities.

Projects can be submitted in four categories: investigative journalism, journalistic trips to underserved areas, journalists in need and media initiatives.

Eugene S. Pulliam First Amendment Award seeks entries [US]



Journalists and organizations in the United States that published stories on First Amendment issues are eligible for a US$10,000 award.

The Eugene S. Pulliam First Amendment Award, presented by the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation, honors journalists, organizations and others that protect and preserve one or more of the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Work must have been completed within the 2019 calendar year. Last year's winner was the Boston Globe's Spotlight Team.

Along with the cash prize, the winner will receive airfare and accommodation to attend the Society of Professional Journalists National Convention.

The deadline is June 20.
