Fact-checking competition open [Africa]

Image result for Africa CheckPrint, broadcast and online journalists whose works held public figures accountable can compete for cash prizes.
Africa Check, a project of the AFP Foundation, is accepting applications for the African Fact-Checking Awards. The awards honor journalism that exposes misleading claims made by public figures and institutions.
Works must be original pieces of fact-checking journalism first published or broadcast between Sept. 1, 2016 and Aug. 31, 2017 by a media house based in Africa.  Entries may have been published or broadcast in French or English.
Two winners will receive a cash prize of US$2,000, and two runners-up will receive a prize of US$1,000 each. There will also be a U$500 prize each for a winner of the best report by a student journalist in English- and French-speaking media.
The deadline is Aug. 31.

Reporting fellowships to El Salvador and Guatemala available [Worldwide)

Women journalists with at least three years of experience can apply for a reporting fellowship.
The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is organizing Adelante (Moving Forward), a five-year reporting initiative that aims to amplify the voices of women journalists in Latin America and strengthen their professional development, impact and safety.
The next group of fellows will travel to El Salvador and Guatemala Sept. 20 to Oct. 7 for a cross-border reporting trip focused on underreported stories. All fellows will begin their trip in Mexico City, where they will complete a comprehensive security training and an orientation.
The IWMF pays for fellowship-related expenses including travel, lodging, meals and fixers/interpreters unless a selected journalist’s news organization wishes to assume these costs.
The deadline to apply is July 4.

International Women’s Film Festival open [Worldwide]

Image result for Ministry of Culture of the Republic of ArmeniaWomen filmmakers from around the world can submit documentary, short and animated films to this festival.
The International Women’s Film Festival "KIN" ("woman" in Armenian), organized with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, will take place Nov. 14 to 18 in Yerevan, Armenia.
The festival is looking for films that address issues related to women’s rights and gender problems.
There are two award categories: best film and special prize.
Competitive films must have been produced after Jan. 1, 2015 and include English subtitles.
The deadline is July 1.

Conference seeks youth correspondents [Worldwide]

Image result for Forest Stewardship CouncilJournalism students ages 18 to 26 can apply to report from the Forest Stewardship Council General Assembly Oct. 9 to 13 in Vancouver, Canada.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Youth Correspondent 2017 will select two youth correspondents who can engage their peers by covering the FSC General Assembly with originality, accuracy and inspiring reporting.
The conference will gather delegates from around the world to discuss a sustainable future for the world’s forests and the people that inhabit them.
Correspondents will receive travel, visa fees reimbursement, accommodations, meals and a small stipend.
Candidates must demonstrate excellent writing skills in English.
The deadline is July 14.
