Competition highlights drug policy reporting [Brazil]

The Gilberto Velho Award is organized by the Centro de Estudos de Segurança e Cidadania with support from the Open Society Foundations in Brazil and Abraji.
The competition aims to stimulate debate and recognize news coverage on drug-related public policy and legislation.
Works must have been published between Nov. 1, 2016 and Nov. 5, 2017.
The first, second and third place winners will receive BRL7,000, BRL3,000 and BRL2,000, respectively. There will also be two honorable mentions of BRL1,000 each.
The submission deadline is Nov. 5.

ICIR’s call for Applications on financial reporting (Nigeria)

Image result for data journalismJournalists who have at least of three years of experience and work with a media house are invited to attend this training Dec. 3 to 7 in Lagos.
The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), with support from the Ford Foundation, will host a workshop on financial reporting, including the coverage of illicit financial flows, taxes and taxation, power/energy, and other related beats.
The project seeks to enhance participants’ knowledge about these sectors and build their skills on investigative reporting and data journalism.
Registration is free. The deadline to apply is Oct. 19.

The Journalismfund.eu is seeking applications for its “European Cross-Border Research Grant” to promote quality journalism in Europe by giving journalists the chance to carry out journalistic research projects.
Journalismfund.eu will support professional journalists, who have good ideas for cross-border research and for research on European affairs. The stories must be relevant for European target groups.
Journalismfund.eu supports teams of journalists from several countries working out of each their country on a common story thus compiling multiple research competences and safeguarding publication to various audiences. Journalismfund.eu occasionally supports individual journalists working on European stories. Publication to multiple audiences and in several countries is considered important in order to address the various European audiences and achieve impact for the journalistic stories.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Journalismfund.eu supports journalists living in a Council of Europe country (geographical Europe). When relevant for the story, team members from elsewhere can be accepted, too.
  • Applicants must be working as professional journalists.
  • Only natural persons are eligible.
  • Students are not eligible.
  • Journalists who were previously allocated a Journalismfund.eu working grant can reapply, but the jury will include the result of previous working grants in their evaluation of the new application.

Simon Cumbers Media Fund calls for Applications

Journalists and media professionals with an interest in reporting on issues in the developing world are invited to apply for funding under the winter 2017 round of the Simon Cumbers Media Fund. The fund’s aim is to assist and promote more and better quality media coverage of development issues in the Irish media.
Proposed projects should focus on international development themes, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and applicants must demonstrate the relevance of their project to one or more of the seven Irish Aid Priority Areas for Action.
