Portal Negócios da Comunicação and the Center for Communication Studies at the University of São Paulo (Cecom, in Portuguese), with institutional support from Abraji, organize the 2nd Regional and Community Journalism Forum on Sept. 3 in São Paulo.

The program will feature four panels on topics such as the role of social media, the "digital first" mindset and the importance of local journalism.

Admission is free by donating 1 kilo of non-perishable food.

Photography and Social Justice Fellowship available [Worldwide]

Early-career photojournalists and documentarians can apply for this program in New York.

The Magnum Foundation, in partnership with CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism, organizes the Photography and Social Justice Fellowship.

The program builds capacity and community among a diverse, international network of fellows who have not had access to mentorship or training in photography but can demonstrate a commitment to activism and social justice.

Fellows will attend weekly online meetings in March to May 2020, followed by workshops in New York at CUNY’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Over the course of six months, fellows will also produce a body of work that aims to advance social justice in their communities under the mentorship from Magnum Foundation’s network.

Journalists in Residence Program open [Worldwide]

Journalists who have some years of media experience and are proficient in English can apply for this program.

The Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago is organizing its Journalists in Residence Program March 23 to June 13, 2020 in Chicago.

The program aims to shape the next generation of leaders in business reporting. Participants will audit classes, participate in events, collaborate with peers and more.

The organizer provides airfare, a US$12,000 stipend, training, a study space and an opportunity to write for the ProMarket blog.

The Culture Resource is accepting applications for its production awards. The program offers grants for authors to produce their first creative projects.

Grants of up to US$10,000 are available for projects in literature, music, performing arts and visual arts.

The film section covers the production of short, medium-length and feature-length fictional, documentary, animated and experimental films.

Chevening offers journalism scholarships [Worldwide]

Journalists can apply for the Chevening Scholarship Program.

Chevening Scholarships are the global scholarship program funded by the U.K.'s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organizations for outstanding scholars with leadership potential.

The scholarships are offered for many fields of study, including journalism and media. The program provides full or partial funding for full-time courses at the postgraduate level, normally a one-year master’s degree, in any subject and at any U.K. university.

Applicants must have an excellent undergraduate academic track record and two to five years of professional experience, in addition to being fluent in English.

The deadline is Nov. 5.

Fellowship on professional development available [US]

U.S. journalists interested in pursuing a project in Germany can apply for a fellowship.

The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship, sponsored by the Robert Bosch Foundation and Cultural Vistas, gives U.S. professionals the opportunity to complete a comprehensive professional development program in Germany.

The program includes travel, seminars, customized work placements and networking events designed to help fellows gain an in-depth understanding of current issues facing the European Union and Germany. Fellows may choose from two options of the program duration: six months or nine months.

Prior to the seminar series and work placements, fellows will attend eight weeks of intensive language courses in Berlin.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens under the age of 40 with at least five years of relevant work experience in their proposed field of work they wish to pursue in Germany. Graduate degree is preferred.

Candidates from the following fields can apply: business administration, cultural management (ex. museum, theater, orchestra), journalism, law, nonprofit, public policy and urban planning.

Fellows will receive a monthly stipend, health insurance and financial support for accompanying spouse and children. Accommodation and travel costs are also covered.

The application deadline is Nov. 1.

Video contest on popular science accepting entries [Russia]

Russian video bloggers, journalists, scientists, students and others interested in the popularization of science can apply for this contest.

The Russian TV channel Science has launched a contest for short popular videos about science.

Videos must not be longer than 5 minutes. The categories are experiment, popular science, discovery and children on science (for children up to 14 years old).

The best videos will be featured in the Science channel's programs.

The deadline is Sept. 30.
