Undergraduate and graduate students can apply for free registration for two conferences.

The Dow Jones News Fund will sponsor emerging journalists to attend the Society of Professional Journalists Conference on Sept. 12 and 13 and the Online News Association Everywhere on Oct. 1 to 16. 

Selected students must be able to arrange their own technology and broadband needs to attend the conferences.

Applicants must submit a 500-word personal essay and a journalism reference.

Journalism Scholarships available [Worldwide]

Producers and content creators working in science, history and nonfiction media can apply for a bursary to attend this conference.

The World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (WCSFP) will take place online Dec. 8 to 10. The event focuses on how science and history are communicated to the world.

The Emerging Producers Bursary Program offers 25 scholarship covering the registration fee, tailored advice to navigate WCSFP and more.

Underrepresented voices and individuals from across all cultural and geographic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Reporting fellowship available [Africa]

Journalists, media professionals and producers in Africa covering civil society, media, gender, labor, or environmental and Indigenous rights can apply.

The Consortium to Promote Human Rights, Civic Freedoms and Media Development in Sub-Saharan Africa (CHARM-AFRICA) hosts the 2020 Media Fellowship, which runs September 2020 to February 2021.

The fellowships are part of CHARM-Africa’s ongoing work to protect and expand the space for civil society organizations and human rights defenders, as well as nurture and enhance the effectiveness of independent media and journalism in the region.

Four candidates will be selected. This fellowship includes a cash award of US$3,000, introduction and access to sources, and networking events.

Journalists reporting in English, French, Spanish, Arabic or Portuguese are invited to apply. Preference will be given to multi-skilled journalists who can produce content for different platforms.

The deadline is Aug. 28.

The Alliance of Independent Regional Publishers (ANRI) presents the webinar "Inside podcasting: what you need to know before launching a podcast" at 11 a.m. Moscow time (GMT+3) on Sept. 10.

Aswan Women Film Festival accepting entries [MENA]

Arab filmmakers can submit their works to compete in this film festival in Aswan, Egypt.

The Aswan Women Film Festival is accepting submissions to its fifth edition that will be held in February 2021.

The competition is open to feature and short films (up to 60 minutes). Entries must be related to a women's issue and not have been screened before.

The prizes will be announced later.

The deadline is Oct. 31.

The Washington Post seeks interns [US]


Journalism students can apply for a summer internship program in Washington.

The Washington Post offers 12-week paid internships for reporters, visual journalists, multiplatform editors or producers, news or digital designers, graphics reporters or developers, social media producers and audio producers.

Candidates must have had at least one professional news media job or internship and be a college junior, senior or graduate student in a degree program on Oct. 7.

Interns are paid. For summer 2020, the salary was US$750 per week.

The deadline is Oct. 7.

The Society of Environmental Journalists hosts online conference [Worldwide]

Environmental journalists and students are invited to attend this event.

The Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) will host its annual conference online on Sept. 16, 17, 23 and 30. The conference's agenda will feature workshops, virtual field trips, plenary sessions and chats. Topics include the post-coronavirus, climate-changed economy; reporting on regenerative agriculture; the 2020 U.S. Election and what's at stake; and more.The conference will also celebrate the winners of the SEJ Awards for Reporting on the Environment. The first 300 to register will pay US$15 to US$200. Regular registration costs US$20 to US$250.
