Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards seeks entries on broadcast, documentary, digital reporting [US]

Broadcast, digital and documentary journalists whose work aired in the United States can apply for this award.

The Columbia University's Journalism School is accepting entries for the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards.

Possible submissions include digital and multimedia productions (including online video); network and cable programs; major market stations; medium market stations; small market stations; independent productions-documentary; and local or national radio.

Programs must have appeared on air, online or in theaters for the first time between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020. Non-English entries are eligible, as long as they are accompanied by English subtitles on screen (preferred) or a complete transcript in English.

Winners receive a silver baton or a gold baton for truly outstanding reporting, which is inscribed with the famous observation about the power of television by the late Edward R. Murrow.

The deadline for applications is July 1. The entry free varies from US$100 to US$250.

Portugal's Universidade NOVA seeks entries on business, financial reporting [Portugal]


Print and online journalists can compete for cash prizes.

Portugal's Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and Santander Totta Bank seek entries for its business journalism prize.

The competition aims to highlight the best coverage of business news published in 2019 in Portugal. Categories include business management and business, financial markets, and business sustainability and innovation.

The grand prize winner will receive EUR10,000. The winners in each category will be awarded with EUR5,000.

Solidarity Fund focus on cultural institutions [Lebanon]


Cultural organizations in Lebanon can apply for a grant.

The Solidarity Fund, sponsored by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture, in partnership with Culture Resource, aims to support Arts and Culture Structures in Lebanon.

The grant will be tailored to the needs of individual organizations providing them with some means to retain their core teams in a way that allows them to think and reflect together on their mandates, operations, activities and future. The grant also provides consultancies (legal, artistic, technical and the like) if needed.

This scheme of a maximum of US$80,000 per organization will benefit up to 16 active arts and culture structures based in Lebanon with clear links to community participation programs.

Aspiring environmental reporters can apply to cover the upper Great Lakes region.

Interlochen Public Radio is offering a one-year environmental reporting fellowship in Interlochen, Michigan.

Responsibilities include producing environmental news stories for public radio audiences; helping revive and produce the weekly feature segment Points North; working with other news organizations; and pitching stories to NPR.

Candidates must have a demonstrated history of enterprising environmental journalism, preferably in public radio, and knowledge of environmental and natural resource issues, conservation and natural sciences.

Midcareer journalists from several developing countries can apply for a scholarship to attend a short course or master's program in the Netherlands.

The Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) is accepting applications for journalism courses at the Radio Nederland Training Centre (RNTC) and other institutions. The OKP is funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and run by the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC).

Media Monitoring Africa seeks investigative stories about children [Africa]


Professional journalists are invited to submit their story ideas to this contest.

Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) is organizing the Isu Elihle (Great Idea) Awards.

The contest aims to encourage fresh reporting, innovative angles, insightful investigations and those that seek to give children a voice and elevate the status of children in Africa.

The competition has two stages: submission of story idea and producing and publishing the full story. The authors of the top six ideas will be given financial support to research and develop their concepts into publishable materials.

Three winners will receive cash prizes: ZAR25,000 for the overall winner; ZAR15,000, second place; and ZAR10,000, third place.

Entries and story ideas should be in English.
