Science journalism awards accepting entries [Worldwide]

Journalists who covered science can enter this contest.

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) offers two science journalism awards.

The David Perlman Award for Excellence in Science Journalism - News seeks news of scientific advances, generally produced under deadline pressure of one week or less.

The Walter Sullivan Award for Excellence in Science Journalism - Features seeks features, generally produced with deadlines of longer than one week, that explains the background of scientific discoveries or principles.

Works must have been published or broadcast in 2019. Entries must be in English or include an English translation.

The winners will each receive US$5,000, travel expenses to attend the AGU Fall Meeting and more.

The deadline is March 15.

Journalism program accepting applications [Russia]

Young Russian journalists from the European part of Russia who have experience in cultural journalism can apply for free training.

The Pro Arte Foundation, in collaboration with the Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation, is accepting applications for its School of Cultural Journalism. The purpose of the program is to promote cultural journalism in Russia and improve professional standards in that field.

The program offers a combination of classroom and distance education, practical and theoretical learning: lectures, seminars, master classes, individual consultations, meetings, online mentoring and individual study. 

The spring session will take place May 7 to 13 in Pushkin, near Saint Petersburg, and the autumn session, late October in Moscow.

The deadline is March 10.

Workshop on podcasting available [Spain]

Media professionals and journalism students can register for this workshop in Spanish.

Carne Cruda organizes the intensive podcasting training "Make your own podcast" March 21 and 22 in Madrid.

Participants will learn the differences between podcasting and traditional broadcasting, what kind of stories can become podcasts and the tools needed to do so.

The cost of the workshop is EUR95. Discounts are available.

Yale offers scholarships for digital publishing course [US]

Media professionals can apply for a scholarship to attend a one-week course in New Haven, Connecticut.

The Yale School of Management will host the 2020 Yale Publishing Course: Print and Digital Media Course on June 14 to 19.

The course is designed for mid-to-senior-level professionals and focuses on new frameworks and skills in leadership, consumer-insight-driven marketing, techniques for innovation and more.

Applicants must work for a nonprofit organization or a small business with 50 employees or less to be eligible for the YPC Innovative Leader Scholarship, which covers the US$ 5,850-course tuition. Accommodation and travel are not included.

The deadline is March 9.

BBC Komla Dumor Award seeks applicants [Africa]

Professional journalists fluent in English can compete for this award.

The BBC is seeking individuals living and working in Africa, who combine strong journalism skills, on-air flair and an exceptional talent in telling African stories for the BBC World News
Komla Dumor Award.

The winner will receive a three-month training and development opportunity with the BBC in London, starting in early September 2020.

The BBC will cover travel, accommodations and visa expenses, in addition to providing GBP2,000 per month and a one-off payment of GBP5,000.

The deadline is March 16.

Alltech Award seeks animal health, agriculture reporting [Brazil]

Broadcast, print and online journalists are invited to submit works to this contest.

Alltech, a global animal health company, organizes the Alltech Journalism Award. The goal is to recognize works on the use of scientific solutions for animal and plant health and nutrition.

The categories are livestock farming and nutrition, agriculture and agribusiness.

Works must have been published or broadcast between March 26, 2019 to March 19, 2020.

The winners in each category will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to ONE: The Alltech Ideas Conference, to be held May 17 to 19 in Lexington, Kentucky.

The deadline is March 19.
