Scholarships available for journalism conference [Worldwide]

Undergraduate and graduate students ages 18 to 25 who are committed to a career in journalism can apply to attend this conference.

Future News Worldwide 2020, organized by the British Council and media partners, will take place July 14 and 15 in London.

The event aims to help young people develop journalism skills and establish the United Kingdom as a global leader in the nurturing of young journalists and media figures.

Attendance at the conference is fully funded for successful applicants, including airfare, accommodations and meals.

Candidates can come from any region of the world but must speak English at IELTS 6.5  or above.

The deadline is Feb. 14.

The Alliance of Independent Regional Publishers (ANRI) presents the webinar "Daily fact-checking for editors" at 11 a.m. Moscow time (GMT+3) on Jan. 16.

The instructor is Vladimir Prokushev, a journalist and teacher in the journalism department of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA).

Participants will learn how to spot altered photos and documents, how to find information that was deleted, how to make sure your information is reliable and accurate, and more.

Banff Center offers Scholarships for writing residency [Worldwide]


Fiction and nonfiction writers, journalists, freelance critics or curators, artists and academics can apply for a writing residency in Alberta, Canada.

The Banff Center is organizing its literary journalism residency June 29 to July 25, 2020 at its Leighton Artists' studios.

The program enables writers to work on their essay, memoir or feature piece, receive individual consultations with faculty and participate in roundtable discussions.

Fellows will be selected on the basis of writing skills, literary merit and the relevance and originality of their project idea. English writing is required.

Participants receive full-tuition scholarships, in addition to a CAD2,000 (US$1,520) commission award for work produced and a travel allowance.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 12.
