Grants for writers available [MENA]

Journalists, writers and academics can apply for a grant.

Mophradat is offering grants to support writers from the Arab world working in the genres of contemporary fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

The grant ranges from US$600 to US$1,300 per month, based on the local living costs of the country of residence of the applicant, for up to three months between July 1 and Dec. 1, depending on the writers’ needs.

The deadline is March 17.

Vacancy : Bloomberg seeks news intern [Brazil]

College students who are fluent in English and Portuguese can apply for an internship.

Bloomberg is accepting candidates for its internship program in journalism in Brasília.

During the program, interns will gain experience producing breaking news stories under deadline for the agency's coverage of markets, companies, economies and governments.

Photo contest seeks entries on international development efforts [Worldwide]

Images from outside the United States are eligible for a prize.

InterAction is accepting entries for its annual photography contest.

Photos must illustrate innovative, effective and inspiring efforts in international relief and development. Examples of self-reliance, innovative technology, shared values, partnerships and delivery of humanitarian assistance are encouraged.

The grand prize winner will receive US$1,000. Each category winner will be awarded US$100.

The deadline is March 11.

Course focuses on security training [US]

Women-identifying journalists with at least one year of experience can apply for this training program.

The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is organizing a security training July 13 to 16 and July 18 to 21 in Washington.

For each training, IWMF will select 16 journalists who have not had the opportunity to receive security training, especially journalists from underrepresented backgrounds. A special emphasis will be placed on how to safely cover the U.S. elections.

Participants will receive travel and lodging.

The deadline is April 12.
