The Solutions Journalism Network, is accepting applications for solutions-focused reporting.

The grants will support global health and COVID-19; education and COVID-19; COVID-19 in general (rolling deadline); and business and sustainability.

News organizations must have completed an SJN training, worked with SJN before or commit to participating in a solutions journalism training before starting their projects.

Grantees will receive up to US$5,000 and must agree to have their stories republished and/or rebroadcast without limitation as part of ​SJN’s SoJo Exchange​.

Film festival seeks submissions on the Arctic [Worldwide]

Filmmakers can submit their films to this festival.

The Arctic International Film Festival "Golden Raven," organized by the Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation, will take place March 19 to 29, 2021 in Anadyr, Russia.

The international competition is open to feature-length and short films (both fiction and nonfiction) on topics related to the Arctic and reflecting various aspects of life in this region, including the life of Indigenous peoples.

Feature-length films must have been produced in 2019 and 2020; short films must have been produced in 2020.

The winners will receive prizes including two cash awards of RUB100,000 (US$1,327).

The deadline is Nov. 10.

TPOTY competition accepting travel photography entries [Worldwide]

Professional and amateur photographers can compete for the Travel Photography of the Year (TPOTY) Awards.

The TPOTY competition was founded by professional photographers Chris and Karen Coe. Sponsors include Fujifilm, Genesis Imaging, Páramo, Photo Iconic, Plastic Sandwich and Royal Photographic Society and others.

The contest features three portfolio categories, three "One Shot" single image categories, a "Smart Shot" category for images taken on a mobile phone or tablet, a special award for travel documentaries, Young TPOTY, a video category and more.

The winners will receive cash prizes and sponsors' gifts.

Entry fees vary from GBP8 (US$10) to GBP30 (US$40). The entry for Young TPOTY is free. Enter in September to receive a 10% discount.

Culture Resource offers Production grants [MENA]

Artists and writers from the Arab region ages 35 and younger can apply for grants.

The Culture Resource is accepting applications for its production awards. The program offers grants for authors to produce their first creative projects.

Grants of up to US$10,000 are available for projects in literature, music, performing arts and visual arts and up to US$15,000 for projects in cinema and video.

The film section covers the production of short, medium-length and feature-length fictional, documentary, animated and experimental films.

The deadline is Oct. 30.
