ACME offers training on investigative journalism [Uganda]

Journalists who have at least two years of experience can apply for this program.

The African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) organizes a fellowship program on investigative journalism for Ugandan journalists.

The program features a five-day training workshop and networking meetings with media owners and managers. 

The next training will be in Fort Portal Nov. 23 to 27, followed by Jinja on Dec.7 to 11 and Gulu Dec. 14 to 18.  

Participants will learn how to use investigative tools to uncover information, how to ask meaningful questions and how to source material, the most effective way to structure and present their stories and more.

The deadline for the next training is Nov. 14.

UNHCR launches Journalism contest on statelessness [Central Asia]


Journalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan can enter this contest.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Central Asia organizes a contest about citizenship and statelessness.

Possible topics include reasons for statelessness and innovative solutions for this problem, extreme vulnerability of people without citizenship and impact of statelessness on a person, risks and challenges that stateless people face in Central Asia during a pandemic, and more.

Entries must be in English, Russian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Turkmen or Uzbek languages, published or aired between Oct. 15 and Dec. 31.

The winners will receive a laptop, a tablet and a smartphone for the first, second and third places, respectively.


The deadline is Dec. 31.

Microsoft offers Data journalism training [Latin America]

Newsrooms whose journalists have taken at least one of the four most recent online courses on data journalism in Spanish at the Knight Center are eligible for this program.

Microsoft and the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas have announced a US$10,000 data journalism training opportunity for Latin American newsrooms.

The funding aims to provide hands-on data visualization training that will enhance the outlet's ability to tell compelling stories in the digital age.

One newsroom will be awarded. The training will be conducted in English and will begin in January 2021.


The deadline is Nov. 15.
