Society of Environmental Journalists offers grants [Worldwide]

Image result for Society of Environmental JournalistsJournalists can apply for grants of up to US$5,000 to support environmental reporting in North America.
The Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) awards grants to provide incentives and support to journalists who are building an environmental platform and are struggling financially to complete the project.
Journalism projects can cover an open topic on environmental issues; marine and coastal issues of the North Pacific and Arctic Oceans; or environmental issues of the Amazon and Andes.
The funds should serve to cover project-related travel, training, research materials, environmental testing and other direct expenses that pertain to the completion of the project.
Both SEJ members and non-members are able to apply for the grants, as long as their work is within the journalism field. Non-members must pay a US$40 application fee.
The deadline is Nov. 15.

One World Media organizes workshops on international reporting [UK]

One World Media is organizing the "International reporting workshop" on Sept. 28, Oct. 3, Oct. 10 and Nov. 10 in London. There is also a free workshop on Islam in the media on Sept. 21.
The workshops will include sessions and activities that are practical, engaging and interactive. Participants will learn practical skills on how to make media in developing countries – covering topics from safety and ethical concerns to storytelling and how to engage an audience.
Registration is open until spots are filled. Tickets cost GBP59 to GBP69.

Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations of ARIJ’s cross-border collaborative work as well as working with the editorial content team and providing timely social media support.
Applicants should have an excellent command of After Effects, Photoshop and Adobe Premier Pro.

Thomson Reuters hosts training on sustainable development [Italy, Senegal, South Africa]

Image result for Thomson Reuters FoundationJournalists with less than five years of experience and midcareer journalists who have not covered sustainability and migration before are eligible for this free training.
The Thomson Reuters Foundation, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, is organizing three workshops as part of its program on reporting sustainable development.
The workshops will take place Oct. 2 and 3 in Johannesburg, South Africa; Oct. 12 and 13 in Milan, Italy; and Oct. 17 and 18 in Dakar, Senegal.  
Participants will receive information, tools and strategies to understand the complex issues surrounding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially in the context of migration.
Travel and accommodations will be not be covered. 
The deadline is Sept. 28 for the workshop in Johannesburg and Oct. 1 for the remaining cities.

Nominations are open for “Global Alliance for Partnership on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL) Awards 2017” that will recognize information/library, media and technology specialists, educators, artists, activists, researchers, policy makers, NGOs, associations and other groups integrating MIL (media and information literacy) in an innovative way in their work and related activities.
The GAPMIL Awards are led by the GAPMIL and the Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue University Network (MILID) with the support of UNESCO, UNAOC, the University of the West Indies.
Focus Areas
The work of the award winners may be related to one or more of the following fields:
  • Health
  • Education
  • Entertainment
  • Finance
  • Creativity

  • Cultural Diversity
  • Environment

Eligibility Criteria
  • Work in any area/sector can be recognized, as long as the activities reflect integration of media and information literacy concepts, including intercultural dialogue, in education, research, policy, advocacy and the communication and information industries (including cultural industries).
  • Nominations should describe how the nominee’s work and activities impact specific groups or society at large.
  • Nominations should describe how the nominee’s practices do influence or could influence the media and Information Literacy field at large, in a local or global context.
  • Nominations should provide links to pictures, video clips or testimonials and any other published content (if appropriate) produced by the nominee.
  • Formal and non-formal approaches are welcome in the information/library media, communication and education sectors, and in relevant practices in each subject.
