Journalism fellowship available [Worldwide]

Journalists with at least two years of experience and fluency in English and at least one other language can apply for a fellowship in New York.

The Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University (NYU) is seeking applications for the World Journalist Fellowship.

The fellowship provides international journalists with two semesters of funding to study at one of the master’s programs at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, as well as a US$14,000 stipend.

Fellows can choose one of nine concentrations: business and economic reporting; cultural reporting and criticism; global and joint program studies; literary reportage; magazine writing; news and documentary; reporting the nation and New York; science, health and environmental reporting; and Studio 20.

Candidates must also complete the application for the graduate program of their choice. The GRE and TOEFL are required tests for admission to NYU. Applicants have until Jan. 24, 2020 to take their tests.

The deadline is Jan. 4, 2020.

Khartoum Arab Film festival accepting entries [MENA]

Arab filmmakers can submit their works to compete in this film festival in Khartoum, Sudan.

The Khartoum Arab Film Festival is accepting works to its fifth edition, which will be held March 1 to 7, 2020.

The competition is open to feature and short films, documentaries, student films and women's films. Entries must be produced in 2018 or 2019 and must not have been screened before.

The prizes will be announced later.

National Geographic Traveller (UK) is accepting entries for its Photography Competition 2020.

Photos can be submitted in one of four categories: cities, landscapes, nature and people.

The grand winner will participate in a National Geographic Mexico tour. Category winners will receive a travel tripod worth GBP168.95.

World Photography Organization accepting entries [Worldwide]

Professional, amateur and young photographers can submit their work to this contest.
The World Photography Organization is accepting entries for its annual Sony World Photography Awards.

Participants can submit work for judging in one of three categories: professional, open and youth (ages 12 to 19).

The professional category winner will receive US$25,000. The winner of the open competition will be awarded US$5,000.

In addition, all winners, including the youth winner, will receive photo equipment from Sony, flights to London, accommodation in a hotel and VIP tickets to attend the Sony World Photography Awards gala ceremony in the spring of 2020. The winners’ entries will be presented at the World Photo London exhibition.

The deadline is Dec. 31 for the youth competition and Jan. 7, 2020 for the open competition. For the professional competition, the deadline is Jan. 14, 2020.

The Investigative Journalism Foundation is accepting entries for the Ulanbek Egizbayev Prize for the best journalistic investigation. The contest is named in memory of the investigative journalist for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty who died in 2018.

UNDEF offers grants for projects [Worldwide]

Organizations working in the areas of media, youth, women, democratization, community development, and rule of law and human rights are eligible.

The United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) is inviting civil society organizations to apply for funding projects to advance and support democracy. Project grants range between US$100,000 and US$300,000.

Projects that are two years long are accepted. Project proposals must fall under one of the following main areas: gender equality; community activism; rule of law and human rights; youth engagement; strengthening civil society's interaction with the government; media and freedom of information; tools for knowledge; and electoral processes.

Proposals must be submitted online in either English or French.
