The Texas Tribune is accepting applications for its summer 2020 fellowships. Fellows work full time during the summer.

The organization hosts a range of fellowships focusing on data visualization, reporting, copy editing, photo editing, art, engagement, media relations, multimedia and events. The reporting fellowship can be based in either Austin or Washington.

The Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) is looking for an experienced managing editor with an excellent eye for the great investigative story to join its team.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent leadership, editing, mentoring and collaborative skills. The selected journalist will lead and grow a team of dedicated journalists, researchers and data specialists.

Applicants must be fluent in Arabic and English.

Nieman Foundation hosts media innovation fellowship [Worldwide]

Journalists worldwide working for news organizations in a business, technology or leadership capacity can apply for a fellowship at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The Nieman Foundation for Journalism and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society will host at least one fellow for an academic year to carry out a research project on journalism innovation.

Candidates must propose a project relating to journalism’s digital transformation. Examples might include ideas for new revenue streams to fund journalism, the construction of new tools for reporting or research into news consumption patterns.

Fellows receive a stipend and additional allowances for housing, childcare and health insurance.

The application deadline is Dec. 1, 2019 for international journalists and Jan. 31, 2020 for U.S. journalists.

PRESS RELEASE: IPC CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION ON RECENT ATTACKS ON JOURNALISTS IN CALABAR

The International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos is calling on security operatives in Calabar to immediately investigate and apprehend alleged perpetrators of recent attacks on journalists working with Akwa Ibom state Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC).

Details from Leadership Online Portal has it that, “a news editor with the Akwa Ibom state Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), Harrison Essien was attacked by gunmen at the AKBC Transmitting Station, Ntak Inyang, few meters from Calabar-Itu highway in Uyo  yesterday, October 20, 2019.”

“It will be recalled that few weeks ago, five employees of the same Broadcasting Corporation were attacked by armed robbers in the same location, even as most of the victims are currently treating injuries sustained during the attack, the report said.”

The Director of IPC, Mr. Lanre Arogundade in a statement demanded that the State Commissioner of Police should immediately probe the recent attacks and take the necessary actions while the alleged perpetrators should be made to face the consequences of their actions.

“Security agencies and vigilante groups should come to the aid of the staff of the organization by beefing up security in the area,” Arogundade added.
