Hackers workshop seeks proposals [Latin America]

Journalists, entrepreneurs, developers, data activists, media analysts and others can submit their workshop proposals to this media event.

Hacks/Hackers Buenos Aires is organizing the eighth edition of its Media Party on Aug. 28 to 31 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The event gathers more than 2,500 entrepreneurs, journalists, developers and designers from five continents to work together in the future of media.

Those who wish to submit a workshop proposal must complete a detailed online form. Apply immediately. Workshops will be selected by Aug. 1.

The program also features a Media Fair where creators are invited to exhibit their prototypes, services, tools or data journalism products, civic applications or innovative media initiatives. To participate in the Media Fair click here.

Innocenti Film Festival acepting entries film competition [Worldwide]

Filmmakers and producers of any age can enter this festival.

The UNICEF Innocenti Film Festival aims to showcase the best global film, video and multimedia on childhood. The event will take place Sept. 25 to 27 in Florence, Italy.

The festival has two categories: general entry –for filmmakers of any age with films between 20 to 120 minutes long– and under 20 –for filmmakers ages 20 and under with films in any length.

Entries must be in English or have English subtitles.

The deadline is July 31.

The Stalker International seeks Film entries on human rights [Russia]

Russian documentary filmmakers who focus on human rights can submit their works to this contest.

The Stalker International Film Festival on Human Rights, organized by the Russian Guild of Film Directors, will take place Dec. 10 to 15 in Moscow.

Filmmakers may submit feature-length and short films and documentaries (up to 52 minutes). Films must have been produced in 2018 or 2019. 

Awards include a prize for best non-feature film. The winning films will be included in the collection of the festival.

The deadline is Sept. 15.

Digital storytelling program available [Africa, UK]


Digital storytellers ages 18 to 35 can apply for this program.

The British Council is accepting applications for ColabNowNow, a digital arts residency that connects digital artists from Africa and the United Kingdom.

The program will select 11 applicants to develop cutting edge digital artworks through collaborative art making and storytelling. They will create a collaborative exhibition to be launched on Oct.11 at the opening of the Maputo Fast Forward festival.

Storytellers can include, but are not limited to: writers, photographers, filmmakers, videographers, bloggers and vloggers.

Applicants must be available Sept. 3 to 8 to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Oct. 2 to 12 to Maputo, Mozambique. The British Council will cover travel expenses and provide a GBP500 (US$625) stipend.

The deadline is July 24.
