New media contest seeks entries [Worldwide]

The Media School at Bournemouth University is accepting entries for its New Media Writing Prize (NMWP).
NMWP is looking for innovative and interactive storytelling (fiction or nonfiction) written specifically for delivery and reading/viewing on a PC or Mac, the web or a hand-held device such as an iPad or mobile phone. It could be a short story, novel, documentary or poem using words, images, film or animation with audience interaction.
The overall winner will receive GBP1,000 (US$1,341). The student winner will receive a three-month work placement at the e-learning company Unicorn Training in Bournemouth, United Kingdom. There will also be the Gorkana Journalism Award and the Dot Award.
The general deadline is Nov. 24. The deadline for students is Dec. 15.

National Geographic Traveller hosts photo contest [UK, Ireland]

National Geographic Traveller (UK) is accepting entries for its Photography Competition 2018. The categories are single-shot, video and portfolio.
Photos may cover one of four themes: action, nature, people and urban. Videos must be less than 60 seconds long and uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.
The grand winner will participate in a six-night Wild Brown Bears photography workshop in the Carpathian Mountains, Slovakia. The portfolio winner will be awarded a photography tour of Qatar for two. And the single-shot winner will receive a Billingham bag worth GBP265.

Essay contest seeks submissions [Latin America, Spain]

Argentina's Grupo Heterónimos is accepting entries for the Heterónimos Essay Prize.
Topics include social sciences, philosophy, history, psychoanalysis, anthropology, literary criticism, journalism, education or any other field of knowledge related to the humanities.
Works must be in Spanish, unpublished and 100,000 to 250,000 characters long with spaces.
The prize for the winning essay will be a free downloadable publication under the imprint Heterónimos and ARS50,000 (US$2,900).
The deadline is Dec. 10.

Fellowship for conference on HIV/AIDS available [Eastern Europe, Central Asia]

The Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being and the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) offer fellowships for the Eastern Europe and Central Asia AIDS Conference (EECAAC) April 18 to 20, 2018 in Moscow.
Applicants must register on the conference website and provide links to their journalistic materials on HIV/AIDS published in 2016 or 2017.
Ten winners will receive fellowships that cover registration, travel expenses and accommodations.
The deadline is Nov. 24.

Contest seeks photos on Sustainable Development Goals [Brazil]

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Brazil has launched a photo contest on the U.N.Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Images must represent the implementation of one of the 17 SDGs in Brazil. The contest is divided into 17 categories, focusing on each of the SDGs. Each category will select three images.
Winners will receive a UNDP certificate of recognition.
The deadline is Oct. 6.

Video contest highlights social issues [Worldwide]

Image result for Social Impact Media AwardsFilmmakers and activists can submit videos that inspire activism, compassion and social transformation.
The Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) is accepting entries for its international documentary and educational media competition and showcase, funded by documentary companies and human rights organizations.
The categories are feature, short and impact video. Feature documentaries must be a minimum of 40 minutes, shorts a maximum of 39 minutes and impact videos 2 to 20 minutes long.
All (non-English language) documentaries and educational impact videos must be subtitled in English.
Winners in each category will receive cash prizes, media features, distribution opportunities and entry into SIMA’s signature film programs.
The deadline is Oct. 10. The late deadline is Oct. 27. The entry fee starts at US$25.

The Kamal Adham Fellowship at the America University in Cairo covers full or partial tuition for the master's program, in addition to books and transportation fees. 
Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and prove they are in financial hardship. 
Preference is given to graduates of Egyptian public universities and professionals in the broadcasting industry.
