Arab Film Festival accepting submissions [MENA]

The Arab Film Festival (AFF) is accepting submissions for its 21st annual film festival to be held in October in San Francisco and Los Angeles. AFF showcases works by independent filmmakers that provide insight into the beauty, complexity and diversity of the Arab world alongside realistic perspectives on Arab people, culture, art, history and politics.
This year’s festival is particularly interested in films that reflect political realities from a universal lens as well as animations and children’s films.
Films must have been produced between Jan. 1, 2014 and June 1, 2017. All non-English language films must have English language subtitles.  
The deadline is May 31.

Society of Professional Journalists offers conference fellowship [US]

Journalists can apply for a fellowship to attend a conference in Anaheim, California.
The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) will select six candidates for the Dori Maynard Diversity Leadership Program.
The fellowship provides registration for the SPJ annual conference, travel, hotel as well as the opportunity to network and attend SPJ meetings and events. 
Candidates must have at least three years of post-college journalism experience, be a member of SPJ and agree to represent SPJ as a diversity fellow for a full year.
The deadline is June 5.

Environmental journalism contest open [Kyrgyzstan]

Kyrgyzstan's Republican Training Center for Media Communications and the UNDP Program for Sustainable Development in Kyrgyzstan host a contest for media and journalists covering environmental issues.
Categories include climate change, biodiversity, land conditions in Kyrgyzstan and others.
Entries must have been published or aired between Nov. 1, 2016, and May 1, 2017 in Kyrgyz or Russian.
Top winners will receive cash prizes.
The deadline for entries is May 10.
