Discover Football offers conference fellowships [Worldwide]

Discover Football, a network of women who use soccer as a tool for empowerment, will host its Women – Football – Media Conference Dec. 6 to 10 in Berlin, Germany.
The conference aims to offer a space for women involved in soccer from all over the world. Participants will have access to underreported stories, opportunities to learn about the intersection of gender and sports, develop and publish stories about women in football and become part of a global network of women in sports.
The organizer, with support from the German Foreign Office, will cover travel costs, accommodation, visa fees and part of meals during the event.

CFPD hosts online workshop on data journalism [Latin America]

Journalists with or without experience and knowledge in data journalism can register for this online workshop in Spanish.
The Center for Digital Journalism (CFPD) at the University of Guadalajara will offer a data journalism course Jan. 8 to March 25, 2018.
Participants will learn how to extract data, clean it, put it into context, combine it, verify it and make it work inside a story and an investigation. The workshop will also address the basics of data visuals.The instructor is Hassel Fallas.
The cost is MXN3,500 for Mexicans and US$170 for those living outside Mexico.
The deadline to register is Dec. 10.

Training focuses on sustainable development and migration [Greece]

Image result for sdgJournalists and journalism students interested in sustainable development and migration can apply for this workshop in Athens.
The Thomson Reuters Foundation, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, is offering an intensive training program Nov. 2 and 3 to provide information, tools and strategies to understand the complex issues surrounding the Sustainable Development Goals.
The workshop will enable journalists to better report the SDGs, especially in the context of migration.
The course itself is free of charge, but selected applicants who are not based in Athens will have to pay for their travel and accommodation expenses.
The deadline is Oct. 30.

Photography contest accepting entries [MENA]

The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), based in Dubai, seeks entries in four categories: "the moment," portfolio, general and time-lapse (video).
Photos must not contain any tags, signatures, initials, frame, borders, logos or any other references and/or marks added by the participant.
The organizer will award a total US$423,000 in cash prizes. In addition to the US$120,000 grand prize, five winners will be chosen from each category and will receive US$6,000 to US$ 25,000; and three contestants will receive special awards.

The Access Copyright Foundation is inviting applicants for its program entitled “Events Grants” to promote the development and public appreciation of Canadian publishing, literary and visual arts.
Events Grants provide funding to organizations and artists groups in order to showcase publishable works to the public or to host professional development events for writers, visual artists, publishers and related arts professionals.
Funding Information
Organizations and artists groups may apply for up to 50% of eligible project expenses to a maximum of $7,500.
Eligibility Criteria
Organizations:
Publishing, writing and visual arts organizations located in Canada that:
Are legally registered in Canada as non-profit organizations
Provide advocacy, research, promotion, public education, professional development and other support services to Canadian publishers, writers or visual artists or
Have a program mandate that is based on the interests of Canadian publishers, writers or visual artists
Have been in continuous operation for at least one year prior to the date of application and have provided services or presented programs with Canadian content throughout that period
Have presented events, festivals or readings series to the public featuring Canadian literary or visual artists and content for at least one year prior to the date of application

South African Media Innovation Program 2017 (South Africa)

Image result for media innovationThe South Africa Media Innovation Program (SAMIP) is a new $4 million, 3-year media initiative to accelerate digital media innovation among independent media outlets and encourage new entrants.
The program will provide funding and capacity building to organisations selected to participate.

HOW TO APPLY


The deadline for our initial funding cycle is midnight on October 31, 2017.
We will narrow down applicants to a set of finalists for phone or in-person interviews during late October, before making our selections in November.

THE PRIZE
A total of ZAR 3 million of grant funding is available to support independent media (covering existing companies, non-profits, and new ventures) in South Africa.
This is the initial disbursement of the total funding available through SAMIP – the South Africa Media Innovation Program.
SAMIP is a 3-year long program that will provide capacity building and financing to independent media in South Africa.
The aim of the program is to promote innovation within the media sector, and also foster new voices.
Winners will be selected by the SAMIP Advisory Panel, subject to approval by the MDIF Board of Directors.
Cash Prize: Up to ZAR 500,000 (*depending on budgets, we will consider smaller projects that apply)
In addition, winners will be admitted to SAMIP and benefit from capacity building:
·          on-going strategic advice, (expert advice)
·          tailored one-to-one consulting, (mentorship)
·          targeted group training designed to help participants’ financial viability and    audience reach (training)
·          further funding, if approved by Advisory Panel, based on favourable initial results
