Citizen Lab seeks Fellows [Americas]

Individuals of African heritage from the Caribbean, North America and Latin America can apply for this remote program.

The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy has launched a fellowship program on issues related to surveillance, digital security and race.

The fellowship can last three or six months, resulting in research reports, software, data visualizations or another project.

Candidates must submit a project covering technical, legal and/or policy investigations of surveillance technologies in communities of color and/or deployed during protests; or developing privacy enhancing technologies and tactics (e.g., encryption and anonymity tools, contextualizing these tools for racialized communities).

Fellows will receive CAD12,000 (US$8,862) or CAD24,000 (US$17,724), depending on the duration of the project.

Culture Resource offers grants [MENA]

Cultural actors, including filmmakers, visual journalists and writers, across the Arab world can apply for grants.

Culture Resource has launched its program “Wijhat” (Destinations), which offers grants of up to US$8,000.

The grants are intended to support the travel to festivals and training events within the Arab region and internationally, allowing grantees to present their works to diverse audiences, to exchange knowledge and expertise with peers and to build their professional capacities.

The program covers ticket and visa costs, accommodation and partial support for living expenses.

The deadline is Sept. 15.

Eurasian Development Bank seeks reports on economic integration, sustainable development [Russia, Central Asia]

Business journalists from Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Moldova can submit works on Eurasian integration and development.

The Eurasian Development Bank organizes the contest "Eurasian integration and development - 21st century" for the best journalistic works on regional economic integration and sustainable development.

There are six categories: best publication in a news agency, online media, print media, TV, radio and the best work on humanitarian integration.

Entries must have been published or broadcast between Dec. 1, 2019 and Sept. 30, 2020.

Winners in each category will receive diplomas and various prizes.

The submission deadline is Sept. 30.
