Texas A&M photojournalism program accepting proposals [Worldwide]

The Conflict and Development Center at Texas A&M University organizes the Student Media Grants Program. The photojournalism award encourages students to use innovative methods to research and chronicle issues facing fragile and conflict-affected nations.
Selected participants must commit to a three-month period engaging in international development issues through extension activities, internships or student research. They must document their experiences through a series of posts for the ConDev Blog and photo and/or video journalism.
Students should submit proposals that describe their expected travel, research and photo subjects. Possible topics include food insecurity, health, education, land tenure and poverty in fragile and conflict-affected nations.
The program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students from accredited universities worldwide.
The deadline is Sept. 30.

Folha de S. Paulo offers visual journalism training [Brazil]

Folha de S. Paulo has launched its first training program in visual journalism. The program will take place Oct. 2 to Nov. 17 at the newspaper's headquarters in São Paulo.
Participants will attend theoretical and practical classes taught by newspaper and university professionals.
Trainees, as well as finalists, who live outside São Paulo will receive free hotel accommodations. 
The course is free. The deadline is Sept. 10.

The Times and The Sunday Times are hiring a journalist skilled in computational methods to help in data investigations.
The data journalist who will work with the team to generate story ideas; pitch, research and write investigations; assist reporters with data journalism techniques across all subjects; build contacts and collaborate inside and outside the newsroom.
Candidates must have have proficiency using one or more programming languages, such as Python, R or SQL, for data collection and analysis; training or experience in journalism (e.g. news writing, media law, investigative research); awareness of statistical methods; and demonstrable interest in public interest journalism and U.K. current affairs.
The deadline is Sept. 10.

The 9mobile Photography Competition seeks to empower photographers using the power of digital, online, social and mobile media.
This year's theme is "Capturing solid moments." Contestants are invited to capture sights of historical buildings, famous landmarks, bridges, city skylines and old churches in a creative way.
The grand prize is a Canon camera. The top two runners-up will receive Samsung phones.

MFWA Seeks Entries for West Africa Media Excellence Awards

Are you a journalist in West Africa who has produced compelling work(s) that has had significant impact on society? If yes, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) invites you to submit your work(s) for consideration for the first ever West Africa Media Excellence Awards.
This is an initiative to reward and inspire media excellence in West Africa. The maiden edition of the Awards is scheduled for October 28, 2017 in Accra, Ghana.
Finalists will be hosted at the Awards event on the 28th of October, 2017 and also participate in the West Africa Media Excellence Conference on the 27th of October, 2017 which will feature sessions on topical journalism issues and also provide opportunities for networking with other journalists, editors, and experts from West Africa.
