Reporters Without Borders Germany offers refuge scholarship [Worldwide]

Reporters Without Borders Germany, in cooperation wit taz Panter Foundation, will host one journalist September to November 2017 and another one March to May 2018.  
The Rest and Refuge Scholarship will cover travel expenses, an apartment, pocket money and free transportation in Berlin.
Participants must be able to communicate in basic English or German. They must have the intention to return to their country after tthe fellowship.

Reporting grants available to cover food and development [Europe]

The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is accepting applications for the Innovation in Development Reporting Grant Program (IDR). The program aims to develop experimental and compelling storytelling on topics related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 
The funded projects must also address issues in one or more of the world’s Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and/or the key European donor countries’ development relations with LDCs. This round's topic is food production and food security; health and nutrition; and food trade and markets.
Organizations must serve audiences in at least one of Europe’s top five Official Development Assistance donor countries in absolute terms: France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. 
The average grant support for projects is EUR20,000.
The deadline to submit a story idea is Sept. 6.

Travel fellowship available for entrepreneurship conference [Africa]

The Tony Elumelu Foundation, a nonprofit organization working to promote entrepreneurship in Africa, is hosting the Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Forum Oct. 13 to 15 in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Forum will feature exhibits, masterclasses and interactive learning sessions between entrepreneurs and thought leaders and investors, sharing insights and key lessons for future success.
The organizer will cover international and local transportation, accommodation and a per diem for selected journalists.

UNDP/RFPs: Provision of Media Services for Legal Awareness Campaigns (Afghanistan)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking proposals for its “Provision of MediaServices for Legal Awareness Campaigns”.
The United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) Afghanistan and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in April 2016 initiated the Afghanistan Access to Justice Project (AA2J). AA2J supports increased Access to Justice in particular for vulnerable and marginalized groups.
The Project takes human rights based approach and mainstreams attention to vulnerable and marginalized individuals and groups.
The Ministry of Justice develops and coordinates legal awareness campaigns by:
  • Identifying the users of the justice system and the particular access to justice and human rights and legal needs of user (s);
  • Improving legal awareness by tailoring messages to the intended audience using all appropriate national and local media;
  • Providing low-cost or free legal services to indigent defendants;
  • Bringing justice institutions to the people by making information available about locations of justice institutions to improve access
Thematic Areas
  • Legal aid and legal awareness;
  • Justice sector capacity and coordination with focus on the implementation of the Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW) Law and
  • Legislative drafting and human rights.
Task and Responsibilities
  • Develop a comprehensive legal awareness media plan for radio messages
  • The Contractor shall prepare the scripts for 1 minute messages (approximately 16 messages: 4 in Dari & 4 in Pashto) on legal awareness from the /articles provided by UNDP in English and Dari, and submit them MoJ for approval.
  • Translate the approved scripts in both Dari and Pashto (8 messages: 4 in Dari & 4 in Pashto)
  • Pre-production development of scripting and recording of audio messages
  • Manage the recording, production and distribution of audio legal awareness messages in Dari and Pashto (using both male and female voices, to be approved by UNDP and MoJ) through the radio channels as mentioned in section F below.
  • Purchase 1 minute prime time media space for successful implementation of the legal awareness campaign through radio at national, regional, provincial, district and community level across the selected provinces in Afghanistan as mentioned in section F below.
  • Manage the airing of the legal awareness campaigns/messages and ensure media plan adherence
  • Ensure airing of all messages at prime times on the different radio stations
  • Provide authenticated validation of airing of legal awareness messages by the selected media outlets and MoJ PLAU.
  • Submit a monthly legal awareness status update report to UNDP with proof of broad cast by each radio outlets
Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicant registered and permitted to work in Afghanistan.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in airing PSAs.
  • Experience of media production is required.
  • Experience in providing media by services across Afghanistan is required.
