Contest seeks reports on diverse voices [US]

Journalists of color can submit a story pitch for this program.

High Country News, in partnership with PLAYA, has launched the Diverse Western Voices Award.

The award will support a project of deep reporting and narrative journalism based in the American West.

The winner will receive a two- to three-week residency at PLAYA in Oregon, a US$1,000 travel stipend, payment for the story and mentorship from a High Country News editor.

Reporting should take place between April and September.

The deadline is March 15.

Latin America News Dispatch seeks pitches [Latin America, US]

Journalists and authors residing in Latin America and the United States can submit their pitches.

Latin America News Dispatch is looking for stories in English about Latin America or Latin Americans living in the United States.

Topics can range from politics to travel, business and more, as long as they refer to Latin America and/or the Latin American diaspora.

Proposals for articles, analysis, interviews and multimedia pieces are accepted. The magazine does not publish essays, opinion pieces or academic articles.

Vacancy :BBC seeks journalists [Côte d'Ivoire]

Experienced journalists with excellent command of English and French can apply for several positions in Abidjan.

The BBC is hiring a bilingual reporter, a field producer, a videographer/editor to join BBC Africa service.

The bilingual reporter will provide timely coverage of news and current affairs events in Côte d’Ivoire and the surrounding regions and will advise teams on stories in the patch for wider BBC consumption.

The field producer will organize, gather, process and deliver multimedia output, responding quickly to news and other editorial issues. 

The videographer/editor will shoot and edit material for programming, outside broadcasts, online, newsgathering in the field, live or recorded, often edited in the field.

Competition seeks sustainable development reporting [Worldwide]

 Journalists committed to defending democracy and human rights can enter a competition.

The Lorenzo Natali Journalism Prize, sponsored by the European Commission, recognizes excellence in written, radio and broadcast journalism on the theme of development, democracy and human rights around the world. 

This year's overall theme is sustainable development, particularly fighting poverty and inequalities, human rights, democracy, youth, gender equality, environment and climate change, health, and technology and digital.

The contest has three categories: a Grand Prize, for journalists whose media headquarter is located in a partner country of the EU; Europe Prize, for journalists whose media is in one of the countries of the European Union; and Best Emerging Journalist Prize, for journalists under 30 in any partner country as well as in the EU Member States.

Works must have been published or broadcast between March 10, 2019 and March 9, 2020. For the United Kingdom, reporting must have been published between March 10, 2019 and Jan. 31, 2020.

Entries are accepted in all languages but should include a translation in English, French or Spanish if they are not written in one of these languages.

The winners in each category will receive EUR10,000 (US$10,803).

The deadline is March 15.
