Journalists covering higher education in Brazil can compete for the Estácio Journalism Award.

Organized by the educational group Estácio, the award aims to raise awareness of the importance of higher education in Brazil.

Works must have been published or broadcast between July 3, 2018 and July 6, 2019. The contest is open to print media (newspapers and magazines), TV, web and radio.

There are two categories available, national media and regional media, with prizes ranging from BRL10,000 to BRL25,000.

The deadline is July 8.

Dart Center hosts training on children, refugee crisis [Worldwide]

Journalists with at least three years of experience who covered refugee/migration issues can apply for this training.

The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, a project of the Columbia Journalism School, will host the workshop "Reporting on refugees and migration through the eyes of children" Sept. 22 to 29 in New York.

The workshop will bring journalists together with policy experts, scientists and practitioners working on early childhood development in a refugee context, to discuss the effects of trauma and effective interventions designed to mitigate harmful effects. The program will also include journalist-to-journalist discussions of craft, ethics and best practices for telling compelling stories about this vulnerable population.

Twenty-five journalists from around the world will be selected to participate. English fluency is required.

Participants will receive roundtrip travel, hotel lodging, ground transportation and most meals.

The deadline is June 7.

Journalism Workshop on innovative business models available [Europe]

Business developers, founders and directors of news organizations in Europe can apply to attend this program.

The News Impact Academy offers a two-day workshop for professionals looking to innovate their business models. The training will deep-dive into the most pressing challenges in the news industry and discuss the latest solutions to monetize journalism with its expert. This program is a collaboration with the Google News Initiative and aims to bring innovation to journalism.

The workshop only has 20 spots available. It will carefully select its candidates to build a diverse group of media professionals with different skills and backgrounds.

The training will take place July 9 and 10 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The events offered by the News Impact Academy are free of charge. Travel and accommodation are at the expense of participants.

Journalism Prize focuses on children's rights [Brazil]

Citizen journalists with audio or video reports in Portuguese are eligible for an award.

The Radiotube Citizen Journalism Prize is organized by nonprofit Criar Brasil and sponsored by the Petrobras Socio-Environmental Program.

The contest will select three audio and three video reports in Portuguese. Works must focus on human rights, especially the rights of children and adolescents and must be shared on Radiotube.

The winners will receive BRL1,000 to BRL1,800.

The deadline to upload entries is July 8.
