Fellowship for journalists available [Nigeria]

Seasoned journalists can apply for this program in Lagos.

The Civic Hive Media Fellowship is a six-month intensive program focusing on impactful stories.

The fellowship is looking for stories that will advance and bring attention to transparency, accountability and civic engagement. Possible themes include gender inequality, health, people with special needs, agriculture, education, social investment programs, civic issues and the extractive industry.

Six fellows will receive a monthly stipend of NGN150,000, in addition to attending meetings with stakeholders and training sessions.

The 2020 fellowship will run April 27 to Sept. 31.

The deadline is March 31.

Journalism award seeks stories on crop-livestock-forest integration [Brazil]

Professional journalists can compete for this award.

The ILPF Network has launched a journalism competition to recognize stories on crop-livestock-forest integration systems (ILPF, in Portuguese).

Works must have published or broadcast between July 1, 2019 and May 15, 2020 on TV. The contest has five categories: print, audio, audiovisual, photojournalism and communication professionals in the ILPF Network.

The winner in each category will receive a press trip to one of the 16 Technological Reference Units (URT) or one of the 12 Technological Reference and Research Units (URTP) in Brazil, in addition to traveling to the ILPF World Congress on June 22 in Campo Grande.

The deadline is May 15.

Thomson Reuters Foundation offers workshop on human trafficking, modern day slavery [Thailand]

Journalists with at least three years of experience can apply to attend this free workshop.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation is organizing the workshop "Reporting on human trafficking and modern day slavery" July 13 to 17 in Bangkok.

Participants will gain practical skills and work on their story ideas with guidance from Thomson Reuters Foundation journalists and anti-trafficking experts.

Applicants must be full-time journalists or regular contributors to media organizations in Thailand and have a good level in spoken and written English. 

The organizer can cover travel expenses and accommodation for those traveling from outside Bangkok.

The deadline is May  4.

Training focuses on developing business strategies [US]

Entrepreneurs who have recently launched or have firm plans to found a nonprofit news organization can apply for this free program.

The Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) organizes the INN Springboard, an intensive program on July 7 in Washington.

During this daylong training, participants will learn business planning strategies, engage with a leadership expert, gain exposure to funding models, review financial resources for early-phase nonprofit news outlets and connect with a community of peers and nonprofit news leaders.

Attendees will be reimbursed up to US$300 in travel-related expenses after completing the program.

The application is April 6.
