Digital lab calls for projects [Sub-Saharan Africa]

Multimedia content creators in need of mentorship and financial support are invited to submit a pitch.

Digital Lab Africa aims to provide a springboard for African talent in multimedia creation with the support of French and Sub-Saharian companies.

The call for projects has five categories: digital art, immersive realities, video game, animation and music. Proposed materials must be in English or French.

To fast track the development of their projects, winners in each category will receive a Digital Lab Africa Incubation Pass, which includes mentorship and training, a residency period/learning expedition in France or in Sub-Saharan African countries, and participation at industry events.

The deadline is March 1.

Gasset Awards accepting entries on investigative journalism, photojournalism[Americas, Spain]

Journalists ages 18 and older can submit their work to this contest.

The Ortega y Gasset Awards, organized by El PaĆ­s, highlight the value of freedom, independence and rigor as essential virtues of journalism.

Works may be submitted in four categories: story or investigative journalism, multimedia coverage, photojournalism and lifetime achievement. Entries must have been published originally in Spanish in 2019.

The winners of each category will receive EUR15,000 (US$16,703) and artwork by artist D. Eduardo Chillida Juantegui.

The deadline is March 8.

Awards focuses on religion reporting [Worldwide]

Journalists covering religion can apply for an award.

The Religion Newswriters Association (RNA) Awards for Religion Reporting Excellence honor journalists from newspapers, magazines, broadcast outlets, online outlets, student publications and book authors who write about religion.

The contest features more than 20 awards in six media categories, in addition to a student category, and more than US$10,000 in prizes. Works must have been published or broadcast in English in 2019. International entries are accepted.

The entry fee ranges from US$50 to US$120 for non-members. Joining RNA can save entrants up to US$75.

The deadline is March 2, except for the student category, which is May 1.

CatchLight Fellowship highlights visual storytelling [Worldwide]

Media professionals who have demonstrated excellence in working with visual storytelling and a commitment to effecting social change can apply for this fellowship.

CatchLight, a California-based photography organization, seeks candidates for the 2020 CatchLight Fellowship.

The US$30,000 fellowship will be awarded to organizational leaders in the field of visual storytelling, visual storytellers and/or educators.

Fellows also receive mentorship, personalized project development and networking opportunities.

Candidates must submit a proposal outlining a project to be pursued in the course of the 12-month fellowship. A broad range of visual formats including photography, video, audio, motion, data visualization or VR will be accepted.

The deadline is Feb. 4.
