Multimedia content creators in need of mentorship and financial support are invited to submit a pitch.

Digital Lab Africa aims to provide a springboard for African talent in multimedia creation with the support of French and Sub-Saharian companies.

The call for projects has five categories: digital art, immersive realities, video game, animation and music. Proposed materials must be in English or French.

To fast track the development of their projects, winners in each category will receive a Digital Lab Africa Incubation Pass, which includes mentorship and training, a residency period/learning expedition in France or in Sub-Saharan African countries, and participation at industry events.

Gasset Awards accepting entries on investigative journalism, photojournalism[Americas, Spain]

Journalists ages 18 and older can submit their work to this contest.

The Ortega y Gasset Awards, organized by El País, highlight the value of freedom, independence and rigor as essential virtues of journalism.

Works may be submitted in four categories: story or investigative journalism, multimedia coverage, photojournalism and lifetime achievement. Entries must have been published originally in Spanish in 2019.

The winners of each category will receive EUR15,000 (US$16,703) and artwork by artist D. Eduardo Chillida Juantegui.

Awards focuses on religion reporting [Worldwide]

Journalists covering religion can apply for an award.

The Religion Newswriters Association (RNA) Awards for Religion Reporting Excellence honor journalists from newspapers, magazines, broadcast outlets, online outlets, student publications and book authors who write about religion.

The contest features more than 20 awards in six media categories, in addition to a student category, and more than US$10,000 in prizes. Works must have been published or broadcast in English in 2019. International entries are accepted.

The entry fee ranges from US$50 to US$120 for non-members. Joining RNA can save entrants up to US$75.

The deadline is March 2, except for the student category, which is May 1.

CatchLight Fellowship highlights visual storytelling [Worldwide]

Media professionals who have demonstrated excellence in working with visual storytelling and a commitment to effecting social change can apply for this fellowship.

CatchLight, a California-based photography organization, seeks candidates for the 2020 CatchLight Fellowship.

The US$30,000 fellowship will be awarded to organizational leaders in the field of visual storytelling, visual storytellers and/or educators.

Fellows also receive mentorship, personalized project development and networking opportunities.

Candidates must submit a proposal outlining a project to be pursued in the course of the 12-month fellowship. A broad range of visual formats including photography, video, audio, motion, data visualization or VR will be accepted.

UN launches Visual arts competition on sustainable development [MENA]

Artists and photographers across the Arab world are invited to enter this contest.

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre in Beirut, is organizing a visual arts competition on sustainable development in the Arab region.

The contest aims to encourage individuals to portray the reality of sustainable development in Arab countries through photographs, videos or infographics/animation.

Contestants must choose one or more of the 17 SDGs as themes for their photographs (maximum of 10 photos), videos and infographics/animation (maximum of two), which express their vision of the SDGs.

The winners will be invited to attend the Arab Forum on Sustainable Development in spring 2020.

The deadline is Feb. 29.

Poynter Institute offers training on digital media diversity [US]

Journalists of color who work in the digital space with leadership responsibilities or have demonstrated leadership potential can apply for this training program.

The Poynter Institute, in partnership with The Washington Post, is accepting applications for the Leadership   Academy for Diversity in Digital Media.

A total of 30 journalists will be selected for
the academy, which will take place June 14 to 19 at Poynter’s campus in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The training will focus on critical skills journalists of color need on their paths to leadership in digital journalism and technology.

There is no cost for this program. A limited number of travel stipends is available.

Reporting grants for women on Reproductive health, Justice available [Worldwide]

Women-identifying and non-binary journalists with three or more years of experience can apply for these grants.

The International Women Media's Foundation (IWMF) is accepting applications for the Women Deliver Reporting Grants and the Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice in the Americas Grant.

The Women Deliver Reporting Grants aim to address the need for increased media coverage of women and girls as agents of positive change in developing countries. Applicants can be of any nationality but must submit a publishing plan with news outlets from the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.

The Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice in the Americas Grants are intended for women journalists worldwide who will focus on reporting about and from Argentina, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras or Mexico. These grants will support reporting of untold stories surrounding issues that impact women and girls’ daily lives in the region.

Writing fellowship available [Africa]

Budding writers from Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique can apply for this fellowship.

The African Writers Trust Publishing Fellowship Program aims to encourage the professional development of emerging publishers and writers.

The program consists of mentoring and training, which will take place March 8 to 14 in Uganda, in addition to seed funding.

Candidates must have an on-going project in the form of a manuscript.

Participants will receive travel, accommodations and meals during the training.

The deadline is Feb. 16.

Fellowship for Science, environmental journalists available [Worldwide]

Science and environmental journalists with at least three years of experience can apply for this program.

The Logan Science Journalism Program at the University of Chicago's Marine Biological Laboratory organizes two intensive workshops for journalists interested in learning the process of basic biomedical and environmental research in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

The program will take place May 26 to June 5. The biomedical research course is intended for science/health journalists, and the environmental hands-on research course is designed for environmental journalists.

The fellowship covers course fees, room, board and travel.

Vacancy :Solutions Journalism Network seeks specialists [US]

writers who are interested in solutions journalism can apply for this part-time, remote position.

The Solutions Journalism Network is hiring six solutions specialists, who will each cover one beat: health, environment & agriculture, democracy, economic equity, education or criminal justice.

The solutions specialists will be responsible for the growth, quality and curation of the Solutions Story Tracker, which is a digital database of solutions stories, among other tasks.

Applicants must be able to work 20 hours a week. The pay is US$20/hour. Benefits include two weeks' vacation and a US$500 technology stipend.
