Filmmaking Workshop available [Worldwide]

Students in film direction, cinematography, animation, multimedia and computer graphics can participate in this summer school.
The documentary session of VGIK International Summer School, organized by the Russian State University of Cinematography, will take place July 1 to 21 in Krasnodar, Russia.
The school program includes shooting-oriented workshops, tutorials and training carried out by prominent European and Russian filmmakers. The working language of the school is English.
The organizers will provide accommodations, meals and local transportation, as well as the necessary equipment during filming sessions for selected participants.

Online media offers part-time reporting fellowship [Worldwide]

Young women and trans writers interested in investigating women’s rights and corporate power can apply for this virtual fellowship.
openDemocracy's 50.50, an online publication covering gender issues, is accepting candidates for one part-time reporting fellow to help investigate extractive industries, corporate power, tax justice, and the rights of women, trans and gender non-conforming people. 
The fellowship will start April 30 and last five months.  The fellow will be expected to produce one to two reports and attend virtual editorial meetings. Payment is GBP150 (US$210) for a short article to GBP300 (US$410) for a more in-depth report.
Applicants ages 20 to 30 in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America are encouraged to apply.

Workshop on elections reporting available [Latin America]

Journalists from Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Brazil and Venezuela with at least two years of experience covering politics cab apply for this workshop.
The Thomson Reuters Foundation organizes an intensive workshop on electoral reporting April 9 to 11 in Bogotá, Colombia.
Participants will explore the media's role during the electoral period, acquire tools to check data during political campaigns and plan an effective reporting plan.
Travel and accommodation will be provided to selected candidates living outside Bogotá.

Contest focuses on Mediterranean migration reports [MENA, Europe]

Professional journalists are invited to submit articles or videos/multimedia to this contest.
The Migration Media Award, organized by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, is a competition for journalists covering migration in the Mediterranean region.
The contest has four categories: TV, radio, print and online. Entries must be in English, French or Arabic or include a translation into English, French or Arabic.
Works must have been published or aired between April 15, 2017 and May 15, 2018.
A total of 48 winners will be chosen. They will receive an EU-funded contract (EUR750) US$930 to (EUR7,000) US$8,686 to produce original reporting on a migration topic in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Temasek Foundation offers Journalism fellowship [Asia]

Journalists based in Asia with at least five years of professional experience can apply for this residential fellowship.
The Temasek Foundation International and Institute of Policy Studies at the National University of Singapore organize the Asia Journalism Fellowship program, which enables about 15 journalists to spend three months in Singapore.
This year's fellowship runs July 16 to Oct. 5. Fellows take part in seminars and workshops designed to sharpen their professional skills and deepen their understanding of key journalism trends. 
The organizers provide airfare, accommodations and a stipend to cover basic living expenses.
The deadline is March 30.

Thomson Foundation accepting applications for journalism competition [Worldwide]

Aspiring journalists can compete for an all-expenses-paid spot in a summer course in London.
The Thomson Foundation seeks applicants for its the new Journalism Now Scholar competition.

The winner will participate in Thomson Foundation's digital and multimedia course Aug. 6 to Sept. 7 in London, with a week's work experience in a media organization.

Fellowship for Investigative Journalism available [US]

Experienced journalists can submit a proposal for this fellowship. 
The Boston GlobeOpen Road FilmsFirst Look Media and Participant Media offer a fellowship of up to US$100,000 for one or more individuals or teams of journalists to work on in-depth research and reporting projects.
The chosen journalist will collaborate with investigative reporters and editors from The Boston Globe's Spotlight Team. The fellow may work in conjunction with The Boston Globe remotely or out of its offices in Boston.
Candidates must submit a story proposal that has a U.S. domestic focus and is of public interest. Particular consideration will be given to proposals that investigate serious wrongdoing and abuse of power in the public or private sector.

Competition focuses on digital tools that combat false news [Brazil]

Developers, journalists and others are invited to submit a digital tool that fights fake news.
Catraca Livre, in partnership with the SEB Institute of Education, will offer BRL100,000 to a digital invention that quickly helps to identify falsehoods spread on social media.
The digital tool should be ready in April with the aim of being implemented before national elections in Brazil. The cash prize must be used to improve the tool.
The winning work will be free to be used by any media outlet and will be featured in the Guide to Intelligent Citizenship, a partnership between Catraca Livre and Microsoft.
The deadline is March 15.

Press Institute offers free training on video storytelling for investigative journalists [Ukraine]

Ukrainian investigative video journalists can apply for this free training.
The Regional Press Development Institute is organizing a training on video storytelling, which will be held March 30 to April 1 in Kiev.
Participants will analyze the best examples of investigative video storytelling, learn how to use video for investigative reporting and plan their own investigative project.
Course instructors are Matt Sarnecki, multimedia editor and video producer at the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), and Anna Babinets, editor at the OCCRP in Ukraine.
Participants from outside Kiev will receive travel and accommodations.

Oxfam seeks journalists for research fellowship [Germany]

Journalists interested in the causes and consequences of poverty and social inequality can apply for this fellowship.
Oxfam Germany will select two journalists for its research fellowship on development policy issues. This year's theme is "Developments in issues of escape/flight and migration."
Fellows will each receive EUR2,500. A partial amount of a maximum of 50 percent can be paid in advance. 
The resulting story must be published in a German outlet.
