Visual journalism fellowship available [Africa]

Emerging visual journalists and storytellers from Burkina Faso, Ghana and Ivory Coast can apply for this fellowship.

The World Press Photo Foundation, in partnership with The Chocolonely Foundation, is organizing the West Africa Visual Journalism Fellowship (WAVJF).

The yearlong fellowship will support enable journalists to investigate stories that are relevant to their communities in West Africa.

Fellows will receive a production grant, a living stipend, training and mentorship.

Photo contest highlights human rights issues [Worldwide]

Amateur and professional photographers can enter this competition.

The Photography 4 Humanity Global Prize invites photographers around the world to bring to life the power of human rights through their images.

Entries must relate to human rights issues illustrating courage, despair, hope, injustice, hate, compassion, human rights failures or victories in ways small and large. Photos must have a direct, positive impact on human rights issues by inspiring and mobilizing people to take action.

The winner will receive US$5,000, and his or her work will be exhibited at the United Nations in New York, along with images from the top 10 finalists.

Culture Resource offers Podcasting program [MENA]

Cultural actors, artists and writers can apply for this program.

Culture Resource is accepting contributors for “Mudawanat” (blogs), a podcast project in cooperation with the British Council.

The project aims to encourage the creation and distribution of audio content about arts and culture in the region, in Arabic and in an open and accessible way across the web.

Twelve contributors will contribute to a two-season podcast series will focus on making visible the independent arts and culture sector, encouraging discussions on theoretical and practical matters, and engaging with regional actors and the general public.

Selected participants will participate in a training workshop in November. The location has not been announced yet.

Film festival on migration accepting entries [Worldwide]

Professional and emerging filmmakers are invited to submit a film to this festival.

The UN Migration Agency (IOM) will host the Global Migration Film Festival Nov. 28 to Dec. 18 in several countries around the world.

The festival seeks films that capture the promise and challenges of migration for those who leave their homes in search of a better life and the contributions migrants make to their new communities.

Films must have been completed on or after January 1, 2016 and include subtitles in English. Features must be over 41 minutes long and shorts must be between 15 and 4
0 minutes long.

Features and short films will receive US$1,000 and US$500, respectively.

Steinman Foundation seeks young journalists [US]

Emerging journalists of color with strong digital-first skills can apply for this fellowship.

The Steinman Foundation and LNP Media Group are looking for young journalists to participate in the Steinman Fellows project, which supports two full-time news reporting positions for two-year terms, with salary and benefits.

The selected journalists work as reporters, photographers and videographers across digital and print platforms covering Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The fellowship seeks to foster the professional development of emerging journalists while helping LNP cover and engage segments of the community that are underserved.

Applicants should have familiarity with working in the journalism field, but this experience can come from a school newspaper, volunteer position, etc.

Longevity Journalism Award accepting entries [Brazil]

Bradesco Seguros Group is accepting entries to the Longevity Journalism Award.

The award aims to raise awareness of longevity issues, valuing actions that reconcile financial planning with active and healthy aging, quality of life, well-being and more.

The 2019 competition includes the photography category in the Life Stories Awards and five categories in the Journalism Awards.

Works must have been published or broadcast between Sept. 9, 2018 and Sept. 6, 2019.

The first and second place winners in each category will receive BRL10,000 and BRL5,000, respectively.

Carmignac Foundation organises Photojournalism contest [Worldwide]

Photojournalists worldwide can compete in this contest.

The Carmignac Foundation is accepting applications for the 11th annual Carmignac Photojournalism Award. The foundation awards those who wish to go where others will not, visiting zones that are largely ignored by the mainstream media.

The topic of this year's competition is the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the human, social and ecological challenges it faces today.

The winner will receive a EUR50,000 (US$56,000) grant to support in the implementation, production and promotion of an in-depth photo series. The foundation promotes the award with a touring exhibition and by financing a monograph.

The application deadline is Oct. 16.
