Video competition accepting entries [Central Asia]

Professional and amateur videographers can register for this contest.

The Prague Civil Society Centre is accepting applications for the second round of the Central Asia Video Accelerator, a caption video competition. 

Videos must be 90 seconds to 4 minutes long; made in Central Asia in the format of a caption video, where the story is told not just through visuals but also through narration captions, and must tell a story of someone who is changing the world for the better. 

Possible languages are the official languages of Central Asia's countries, Russian and English.

Authors of all videos that attract 3,500 or more views in two weeks after publication on social media will receive a prize of EUR50.

The deadline is Nov. 8.

ONA seeks immersive journalism videos [Worldwide]

Journalists, technologists, developers and others anywhere are invited to compete in this challenge. 

Journalism 360° Challenge, a joint initiative of the Knight Foundation and the Online News Association (ONA), seeks immersive journalism ideas for a chance to win a share of US$100,000.

Proposals should use virtual, augmented, mixed reality or 360° video, discovering new ways to engage audiences and advance the field of journalism. 

Winners will receive up to US$10,000 in funding to test, refine and build out an immersive storytelling project. 

The deadline is Aug. 20.

The Rory Peck Awards covers video journalism [Worldwide]

Freelance videojournalists who cover international news and current affairs can apply for an award.

The Rory Peck Awards, organized by the Rory Peck Trust, aim at honoring freelance cameramen and camerawomen. The Rory Peck Trust was established in 1995, two years after freelance cameraman Rory Peck was killed while filming in Moscow.

There are four awards: news, features, the Sony Professional Impact Award for Current Affairs and the Martin Adler Prize for a local  freelance journalist or field producer.

In all categories, the awards recognize the quality of camerawork, but also take into account individual endeavor, initiative and journalistic ability.

Entries must have been broadcast (television, agency feed, recognized online news publisher) between July 1,  2019 and July 31, 2020. Works not in English must be accompanied by a detailed storyline and translation.

The deadline is Aug. 3.
