Mercosur Science Journalism Award accepting entries on COVID-19 crisis [Latin America]

Journalists, students, photographers and researchers from Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela) and their associated states (Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Suriname) are eligible.

The National Council of Science and Technology of Paraguay has launched the fourth edition of the Mercosur Science Journalism Award.

The contest aims to promote coverage of science, technology and innovation in Mercosur countries as well as encourage the engagement of young people in science communication.

This year's topic is the COVID-19 crisis. The categories are text (junior and professional) and photography. Winners will receive cash prizes.

The deadline is March 16.

Grants focuses on climate change, COVID-19 [Asia]

Budding to midcareer journalists can apply for a reporting grant.

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is selecting proposals focusing on how climate change and COVID-19 are impacting communities in eastern India and coastal Bangladesh.

The initiative seeks to improve access to quality information and raise awareness among policymakers and impacted communities. The average grant will be US$500.

Digital, print, audio or broadcast journalists are eligible to apply. Stories can be presented in English, local languages or both. Any stories in local languages must provide the English translation.

The deadline is Nov. 30.
