The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) will host the webinar "A private affair: chat apps and journalism" at 9 a.m. EDT on Aug. 22, which will be streamed simultaneously on the IJNet Facebook page.
The webinar will feature Shalini Joshi, who works on the TruthBuzz project for the India-based PROTO, and Tai Nalon, executive director and co-founder of Aos Fatos in Brazil.
Both experts will discuss their experience researching the nature and spread of misinformation as both their countries, India and Brazil, have been impacted by the extensive use of private messaging platforms during recent election campaigns.
They will address questions such as: How should newsrooms take messaging apps into account in their daily work? How can journalists mitigate risk when working with these platforms? How can journalists scale their efforts to reach larger and more diverse audiences? What ethical and privacy concerns should journalists have when using these platforms?
Registration is free and ongoing. Registered participants will receive a reminder email as well as a link to a video recording of the webinar when it becomes available.
This webinar is the first a series of ICFJ Dow Jones TruthBuzz Webinars. Please mark your calendar for Sept. 19 and Oct. 24 for additional webinars with journalists from around the world, discussing collaboration across newsrooms to combat misinformation and creating compelling videos to maximize the impact of fact-checking articles.
