Free Speech and Open Government Award seeks nominees [US]

Journalists, bloggers, lawyers, news organizations, software developers and community activists can apply for this award.

The First Amendment Coalition (FAC) is accepting nominees for its
Free Speech and Open Government Award. The award seeks to highlight exemplary work in the arena of open government.

Applicants must advance government transparency. Works may cover access to public meetings, public records, the courts, government data; defense of citizens’ right to speak; defense of journalists’ rights; defense of the right to “blow the whistle” and alert the public to government misconduct; and others.

Winners will receive a US$1,000 cash prize to be presented at the Annual Winter Meeting of the California Press Foundation on Dec. 5 in San Francisco.

The deadline is Nov. 1. Self-nominations are accepted.
