Workshop on rural development reporting appproaching deadline [Africa]

Journalists with at least two years of experience can apply to participate in this training in Dakar, Senegal.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation, with funding from the United Nation's International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), will select journalists to attend the workshop "Reporting rural poverty and agricultural development" June 18 to 21.

Participants will build expertise and increase knowledge of issues faced by rural communities. Topics include how small-scale agriculture can respond to the growing demand for food and the need to support rural transformation and smallholder agriculture.

Applicants must be working as journalists or regular contributors to print, broadcast or online media organizations. They must be fluent in English or French. Candidates should include professional evidence of their interest in rural peoples’ issues and development.

Fellowships will cover air travel, accommodation, meals and local transportation.

After the workshop, the selected journalists are expected to pursue stories along rural development issues in their home countries.

The deadline is May 22.
