AFP organises African Fact-Checking contest [Africa]

Print, broadcast and online journalists whose works held public figures accountable can compete for cash prizes.
Africa Check, a project of the AFP Foundation, is accepting applications for the African Fact-Checking Awards. The awards honor journalism that exposes misleading claims made by public figures and institutions.
Works must be original pieces of fact-checking journalism first published or broadcast between Sept. 1, 2017 and Aug. 15, 2018 by a media house based in Africa.  Entries may have been published or broadcast in French or English.
The winners of best fact-checking report and best fact-checking series by a working journalist will each receive US$2,000, with two runners-up taking away prizes of US$1,000 each. The winner of best fact-checking report by a student journalist will receive US$1,000 and the runner-up, US$500.
The deadline is Aug. 15.

  1. This is very commendable on the part of AFP. It's a booster to the capacity of investigative journalists and their urge to do more. I recommend journalists who have used FoI successfully to throw in their applications. All the best!
