GMC Seeks Entries for Media Awards (Zimbabwe)

Gender and Media Connect (GMC) is seeking entries for its Media Awards to recognize efforts by print and electronic media in promoting gender sensitivity in and through the media.

The awards will look at:

• Gender Sensitive Content
  • Breadth and depth of coverage
  • Story angles
  • Language
  • Content
  • Visuals
  • Placement of stories/information
• Operations
  • Commitment to gender equity and practices (drafting, adoption and implementation of codes and policies)

Award categories

• Individual Category
  • Print ( News Story, Feature story, specialized report)
  • Radio (News Story, Feature, documentary)
  • Television ( News Story, Feature or Documentary)
  • Graphics and Images (Photographs and cartoons )
• Institutional Category
  • Media house/group (print, radio and television)
• Newsmaker Category
  • A person with a high level of contribution to the media either as a Source of news or information or as an analyst providing gender sensitive information

Eligibility Criteria

• The work should be around topical issues in Zimbabwe.
• The journalists must be based in Zimbabwe.
• For the institutional category the organisation can either be mainstream or community media.
• The Criteria:
  • All work submitted must have been produced between January 2016 and August 2017
• Criteria for individual entries:
  • A maximum of three entries per category
• Criteria for institutional gender selection:
  • The winner(s) will be decided by a high level panel of media and gender experts.
• Criteria for gender sensitive newsmaker:
  • The winner will be decided by a high level panel of media and gender experts.

How to Apply

For each entry, submit the following:

• The attached form
• Half a page biography related to applicant’s work
• Verification that this is applicant’s authentic work by an editor or manager, especially in instances where the work does not carry a by-line or production Credit
• Two samples of the item which applicants are submitting for an award
