MediaShift hosts webinar on Google Apps for journalism [Worldwide]

Anyone interested in digital tools for journalism can attend this online program.

DigitalEd, MediaShift's online training series, will webcast "Use Google Apps to workflow like a pro" at 1 p.m. EDT on July 26.

The hourlong webinar will cover what are Google Apps and why are they important to poor newsrooms; why a shared-access management terminal is the best way for small teams to collaborate; and how to use Google Drive, Google Sheets and Google Docs for publications.

The instructor is digital platform editor Gideon Grudo.

Genetics and Behavior Journalism Fellowships accepting applications [US]

Budding to midcareer journalists can apply for this fellowship.

The Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for its Genetics and Behavior Journalism Fellowships.

The US$7,500 fellowship will support longform stories on genetics and behavior. Five fellowships will be available.

Selected journalists will have one year to produce their stories, beginning Dec. 1. 

The deadline is Sept. 15.

Free training program on digital journalism available [Eastern Europe, Central Asia]

Journalists and bloggers from Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia with at least three years of experience can apply for this program.

"Perspectives," a joint initiative of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the Fritt Ord Foundation and the Thomson Reuters Foundation, hosts the free training program "Covering events in the digital age."

Participants will attend two sessions of master classes and learn about the latest tools for multimedia storytelling and for promoting content in social media; how to write for web platforms and social networks; how to work on long form journalism stories, and more.

The trainings will be held in Armenia and Georgia.

The organizers cover travel, accommodation and meals for selected participants.

The language of the program is Russian.

The deadline is Aug. 6.

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship open [Lebanon]

Mid career professionals who are Lebanese citizens or Palestinian residents in Lebanon can apply for this fellowship.

The U.S. Embassy in Beirut invites Lebanese and Palestinian nationals ages 30 to 50 with a proven track record of leadership and a commitment to public service to apply for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Candidates should have at least five years of professional experience and a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Strong English-language skills are required.

Candidates must submit an essay related to one of the Humphrey fields they are interested in working, explaining their motives to participate in the program and how they would apply the program benefits in their home country.             

The deadline is Aug. 18.
