Selected candidates will be part of a list of individuals who could be called up for work that could range from one day up to 12 weeks. The pool will be operational July 2017 to July 2018.

FRIDA program seeks innovative projects [Latin America]

The Latin America and Caribbean Network Information Center (LACNIC)'s Regional Fund for Digital Innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean (FRIDA, in Spanish) will provide opportunities for strengthening the capacities and networking of civil society organizations, businesses, governments and universities that work to articulate the potential of information technologies and communication in the region.
The FRIDA program consists of awards and grants:
The FRIDA Awards will recognize innovative practices that have made a concrete contribution to social and economic development. Two winners will be selected in 2017. For the first prize, applications will be accepted in three categories: internet development; internet and participation; and technologies and community. The second prize will be for women-led projects that promote gender equality through technology.
The FRIDA Grants will provide US$20,000 to one research project or initiative that seeks to explore the potential of information and communication technologies to promote social and economic development as well as internet access.

ARIJ offers training on media ethics [Syria]

The International Media Support (IMS), The Guardian and the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) will select 20 Syrian journalists to take part in their advanced training program about media ethics.
The nine-month program includes training and mentorship focusing on digital journalism, multimedia, content creation techniques and publishing strategies. The first training course will take place July 31 to Aug. 4 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Applicants must propose an idea for an investigative story. The program will pay GBP2,000 (US$2,562.80) for each investigation.

Knight Center hosts MOOC on Python for data journalism [Worldwide]

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is offering the course “Python for data journalists: analyzing money in politics” from June 12 to July 9, through its Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). 
Participants will learn computer programming and data journalism techniques to produce their own data analyses and investigations. 
Instructor Ben Welsh, editor of the Los Angeles Times Data Desk and co-founder of the California Civic Data Coalition, will introduce students to his tool kit, which includes Python, pandas and Jupyter Notebook. 
The class is open to anyone interested in learning new data journalism tools such as Python scripting to conduct data analysis. Knowledge of computer programming is not required.

Everyday Feminism offers reporting fellowship [US]

Everyday Feminism is hiring 10 virtual reporting fellows who will write educational articles that will seed and amplify cultural tipping points around key social issues. The fellowship will run from July to December.
Fellows are be expected to write one story per week in one of the following editorial tracks – identity, activism culture, policy, healing justice or privilege. The pay is US$125 per post. They must also attend a one-hour virtual orientation on July 5 and bi-monthly meetings.
Candidates must be pursuing journalism as a career and have experience working in a deadline-oriented environment. 
The deadline is June 13.

BBC Brasil is hiring a multimedia editor to join its team in São Paulo.
The journalist will have both editorial and managerial responsibilities, including providing editorial guidance and supervising production work as well as maintaining high standards of work through briefings, feedback and scrutiny of scripts.
Candidates must be experienced multimedia journalists, with an extensive understanding of Brazilian, Latin American and international current affairs and the ability to lead a team in a journalistic environment that is constantly changing.
