ACERP Calls For Papers (ASIA)

Journalists, practitioners and Scholars can submit papers and participate in the conference organized by The Asian Conference on Ethics, Religion & Philosophy (ACERP)  

The conference theme for ACERP is Surviving and Thriving in Times of Change, and the organisers encourage submissions that approach this theme from a variety of perspectives.

However, the submission of other variety of interdisciplinary and theoretical perspective is encouraged

The Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Application Program Ongoing (Worldwide)

The International exchange program, which offers participants around the world the opportunity to spend five months in residence at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), in Washington, D.C., in order to undertake independent research on democracy in a particular country or region.

Stanford : Journalism Fellowship Open (Worldwide)

Journalists can apply for a 10-month fellowship at John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships

Each year, John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford brings together up to 20 fellows from around the world to explore solutions to the most urgent problems facing journalism

JSK will provide Fellows with several financial benefits, including a stipend of $75,000.

US students exchange change Program seeks applicatiions (Russia)

The deadline is Nov. 10.

Undergraduates between the age 18-20 can apply for the Year of Exchange in America for Russians program which provides outstanding Russian students a unique opportunity to study for one year at U.S. institutions of higher education, to engage with local communities in sustained and meaningful dialogue, to educate Americans about Russia's history and culture, and to gain a new, nuanced understanding of American society.

Funded by the U.S. Embassy in Moscow and administered by American Councils for International Education; the program aims to strengthen each participant's English skills and subject knowledge.

The YEAR Program is fully funded, covering tuition, housing, international travel, medical insurance, and other basic living expenses.

The program also supports students with disabilities and provides placements that are fully prepared to engage with students with physical challenges to ensure their success on the program.

All program participants are required to return to Russia for at least two years after the completion of their studies.

WFSJ launches open online courses on vaccines (Worldwide)

Journalists can participate in the  first Massive Open Online Course or MOOC on: A Science Journalism Approach to Controversies: The Case of Vaccines. beginning Nov. 1.

Organised by the World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ); the free MOOC can be taken from anywhere, on your own time and receive an instructor-signed certificate from the WFSJ, Université Laval and Concordia University.

The MOOC will teach journalists how to search for the most credible institution, scientific journal, scientific paper and scientist.

The MOOC’s content is organized into five (5) short modules accessible anytime. Use the platform’s discussion board to discuss with other fellow journalists and post your ideas on the interactive map.

Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting accepting Applications (US)

The deadline is Dec. 29.

Journalists can apply for the annual Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting which honors investigative reporting that best promotes more effective and ethical conduct of government, the making of public policy, or the practice of politics

The Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government manages the program with grant from the Goldsmith Fund of the Greenfield Foundation.

The winner receives $25,000, and five finalists receive $10,000.

EU Delegation seeks entries for Photography Competition (Eygpt)

 The deadline is Nov. 2.

Amatuer Photographers can apply for 10th Photography Competition in Egypt in order to promote and stimulate interest and creativity organized by European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt.

The theme of the 10th Photography Competition is: “Favourite Destinations in Egypt”.

The contest aims to explore this subject in all its aspects in an attempt to obtain a unique image of Egypt by portraying many of its places in a distinctive and different way.

The delegation will feature the first 12 winning photos and award prizes to the first three winners at a special ceremony and exhibition.

Competition seeks photos on Anti-corruption and Human rights issues Worldwide

Deadline November 1, 2017

Photographers are encouraged to submit entries year- round to the bi-annual Allard Prize Photography Competition.

The competition is adjudicated by the Allard Prize Committee and Maxe Fisher, Associate Professor, Faculty of Design + Dynamic Media, Emily Carr University of Art + Design

Entries should reflect themes of courage and leadership in combating corruption, especially through promoting transparency, accountability, the rule of law, and of human rights and/or anti-corruption generally.

The winning photograph will receive CAD $1,000 and be featured on the Allard Prize website, with a brief description and the photographer’s name, for six months. Winning entries will be archived as a past winner on the website afterwards

Turkey: IPI calls for Applications on Journalism Micro-grants

Journalists from Turkey or with substantial experience in Turkey who are currently physically present in the country can apply for a limited number of micro-grants of up to €500 to produce feature-style journalistic content analysing the impact that pressure on press freedom in the country has on other aspects of society

IPI seeks proposals for feature content targeted to an international audience. IPI welcomes ideas for content that highlights the specific consequences of restrictions on free expression and press freedom on other aspects of society and, in particular, analyses any existing links between press freedom restrictions, a decline in the rule of law and economic impact. IPI similarly welcomes content examining the strength and resiliency of civil society in Turkey confronting rights restriction
