Uganda Press Photo Award accepting entries [East Africa]

Visual storytellers in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda can compete for an award.

The Uganda Press Photo Award (UPPA) is accepting entries. The contest has six categories: news, daily life, environment, people, sports and urban. Images must have been taken between Sept. 1, 2018 and Aug. 1, 2019.

The contest includes the East African Photography Award (EAPA), which is open to citizens of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Ethiopia with works published between Aug. 1 2017 and Aug. 1, 2019.

There is also the Young Photographer Award (YPA) for Ugandan citizens ages 21 to 28.

The winners will receive Canon equipment and other prizes, including opportunities to showcase their work and mentorship for the young photographer awardee.

The competition is run by the FOTEA Foundation, in partnership with the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda (FCAU), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and others.

The deadline for is July 15 for the YPA, and Aug. 1 for the UPPA and EAPA.
