ESPN Brazil is hosting an internship program in São Paulo in 2018 and 2019.
Trainees have the opportunity to work in various departments of ESPN, develop an internship plan and are provided with monitoring and evaluation.
Candidates must have good knowledge of English and availability to work 30 hours a week. Interns receive a stipend, food stamps, transportation vouchers, health insurance and life insurance.

Does your initiative match our pillars of truth-seeking, innovation in media, fundamental rights and liberties, vigorous democracy or commemoration and remembrance? If yes, then you are welcome to submit a project proposal for Democracy and Media Foundation’s grants.
The Democracy and Media Foundation is seeking applications for its grant program to counter all forms of totalitarianism in social and political life and to strive for a vigorous democracy and multifaceted, opinionating media.
These objectives shaped the foundation’s current mission: to invest in strong, critical media and a strong, just democratic state based on the rule of law. The Democracy and Media Foundation provides financial support to organizations, projects and other initiatives that promote this mission. The foundation can also provide (external) organizational advice and/or bring different initiatives together.

Funding Information
Grants within this call for applications are considered up to a maximum amount of €75.000 per project (year).
Eligibility Criteria
  • The Democracy and Media Foundation only supports projects and initiatives that:
    • meet a demonstrable need;
    • are embedded in a broader strategy for change;
    • are based on a clear and solid plan, and for which it is likely that (self defined) goals will be reached.
  • Applicants and/or initiatives that take an activating or mobilising role are preferred;
  • If the applicant is a corporation, the initiative must have a transparent governance structure with clearly separated functions;
  • Initiatives by individuals are welcomed, provided that the applicant has a demonstrable track record in the field in which they are requesting subsidy;
  • Each application should be accompanied by a clear and factual budget with a matching financing plan, including a realistic cost-benefit ratio.
  • The foundation prioritizes projects and organizations with clear added value in the Netherlands. Within the Netherlands, preference goes out to projects with an international or national outlook, as well as local initiatives that are part of a broader strategy for change.

Reporting workshop calls for proposals [Africa, China]

The Africa-China Reporting Project at Wits Journalism is organizing the Africa-China Reporting Workshop and Fieldwork Project Nov. 7 to 20 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The workshop will consist of two stages: training and skills development workshop, and the fieldwork project. Five African and five Chinese journalists will be paired in five teams based on their proposals to undertake an Africa-China reporting investigation.
The suggested proposal themes are industrialization and development; business, the economy and trade; agriculture and food security; the environment; culture, language and education.
Participants will receive airfare, accomodations and reporting stipends.

Funding opportunity on SDGs Reporting Open (Ghana)

As part of efforts to mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in development reporting in Ghana, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ghana, is offering funding opportunity to Ghanaian journalists to support quality and thorough reporting that focus on the SDGs.
This initiative forms part of activities under MFWA’s project ‘Mainstreaming the SDGs in Development Reporting.’ The project seeks to advance public knowledge on the SDGs to ensure inclusive and participatory delivery of the Goals in Ghana.
Also under the project will be an Awards ceremony to reward four (4) best SDGs stories in Ghana whether such stories were financially supported by the MFWA or not.

Eligibility Criteria
  • The funding opportunity is opened to journalists from print, electronic and online media.
  • Applicants must be journalists currently working with and for a recognised Ghanaian media organisation.
  • Stories to be supported under this call must be produced and published/broadcast between September 1 and October 9, 2017.
  • An entry for the SDGs Reporting Awards must have been published or broadcast between July 1, and October 9, 2017.
  • The entry should be an original work published through a media outlet in Ghana and must show date of publication/broadcast and the medium in which the work was published.

Summary report of SCEEP project in Lagos communities by IPC with support of Actionaid/UKAID

The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States would like once again to commend the People and the Government of Kenya for the renewed commitment for democracy and rule of Law for which Kenya becomes an inspiring model.

The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States applauded Kenya for holding peaceful elections conducted through the national electoral process held on 8 August 2017.The ACP acknowledges and commends the parties for following the established legal channels to address concerns on the electoral process. It applauds the People of Kenya for the patience and restraint it has exerted during the Court process and commends H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta for appealing for calm and respect for the rule of law after the judgement and during voting process.

The ACP Group is convinced that the People of Kenya will demonstrate the same sense of commitment during the forthcoming Presidential elections and, in so doing, ensure successful and peaceful elections. The ACP Group calls on all concerned to work together to ensure fair, free and credible elections.
