Young journalists are invited to enter this contest for a chance to win a fully-funded trip.

Climate Tracker, in partnership with Hivos, will send six journalists to cover the Sustainable Energy for All Forum May 26 to 28 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Contestants must write an article about energy access, clean energy cooking, right to energy transition, ensuring everyone benefits from sustainable energy access and sustainable energy and climate change. They must also be published in a news site, blog, newspaper or magazine at a national, regional, local or international level.

The winners will receive training before the conference and a grant to cover energy issues back in their home country.

The deadline to publish and submit an article is March 18.

Course on human trafficking, modern day slavery available [Brazil]

Journalists with at least three years of experience can apply for this free training.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation is offering a one-week reporting workshop on human trafficking and modern-day slavery June 15 to 19 in São Paulo.

The workshop will offer a combination of expertise and hands-on training, with an emphasis on producing high-impact stories for widespread dissemination. Participants will learn about efforts to set global standards for combating modern slavery, including fundamental conventions, international instruments and more.

Applicants must be Brazilian full-time journalists or regular contributors to broadcast media organizations in Brazil.

Selected journalists will have their travel and accommodation expenses covered.

Program on documentary photography available [MENA]

Photographers working on documentary projects in the Arab region can apply for a US$5,000 grant and mentorship.

The Arab Culture and Arts Fund and the Netherlands' Prince Claus Fund, in partnership with the Magnum Foundation, are running the Arab Documentary Photography Program.

The program aims to enhance documentary photography in the Arab region, training photographers, sharing stories and discovering new methods for engaging the audience.

Ten photographers will be selected to receive financial and professional support to complete their proposed photography projects.

Grantees are expected to work on their projects in their country over a period of eight months.

Investigative Award accepting research projects [Worldwide]

Journalists and staff at NGOs or other institutions who are investigating in developing or emerging countries can submit a proposal.

The Public Eye Investigative Award is accepting research projects on the activities of Swiss companies in developing countries.

Works must be as yet unpublished and shine a spotlight on human rights violations, environmental crimes, corruption or illegitimate financial practices.

The total amount to be allocated is CHF20,000 (US$20,636), typically between one or two projects.

Egyptian filmmakers are invited to participate in this film festival in Alexandria, Egypt.

The Alexandria Francophone Film Festival will take place June 12 to 17. The event aims to enrich the artistic, cinematographic and tourist movement and to strengthen relations between Egyptian filmmakers and their counterparts in French-speaking countries.

The festival awards prizes for entries in several categories, including feature documentary and short documentary.

Films must be in their original language and contain English subtitles.

Journalism training focuses on migration [Europe]

Journalists interested in covering migration can apply for this free training.

A group of journalists of The Local in Sweden has developed a curriculum for applying the techniques of solutions journalism to migration reporting as part of the EU-wide project Maximizing Migrants' Contributions to Society.

The initiative aims to expand the public narrative around immigration in Europe and highlight stories of real people who have migrated and the communities they have joined.

The training will combine face-to-face and online sessions throughout 2020, depending on successful candidates' location and availability.

Topics will cover the state of reporting on migration in Europe today, practice guidelines, an introduction to solutions journalism, how to write a solutions-focused migration story and how to maximize your work’s impact and engagement.

While the final deadline is March 31, the organizers are recommending to apply as early as possible.
