The Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ) will host its health journalism conference April 12 to 15 in Phoenix, Arizona. 
Conference fellowships are available for journalists from Colorado, New York, California, Missouri, Kansas, Rhode Island, journalism students and instructors, ethnic media, rural media and non-health beats.
The fellowships cover conference registration fee, hotel, up to US$400 for travel and one year's membership in AHCJ.

Escuela de Periodismo Portátil will offer the workshop "My diary in Silicon Valley: innovation and entrepreneurship in new media" Feb. 19 to March 27.

Sky News Arabia accepting applications for business news producer [UAE]

Journalists with at least three years of experience can apply for this position in Abu Dhabi.
Sky News Arabia is hiring a business news producer to join its team.
The producer will work under the direction of the business editor to create and shape the business coverage. Responsibilities include writing scripts, editing pictures, finding guests, developing graphics, writing for online and mobile, and more.
Applicants must have excellent skills in English and Arabic as well as previous experience in a national or international broadcast news channel or business newsroom.

Registration for Fact-Checking Summit ongoing [Worldwide]

Representatives from fact-checking organizations, media outlets, NGOs and academia are invited to discuss the future of accountability journalism.
The International Fact-Checking Network, in partnership with Pagella Politica, is organizing the Fifth Global Fact-Checking Summit June 20 to 22 in Rome.
The event will cover issues in fact-checking and misinformation such as reaching out with facts to skeptical audiences; new formats for fact-checking; acceleration and automation of the fact-checking process; and fact-checking and the platforms.
Registration is free. Priority will be given to participants from organizations that are actively conducting fact-checking. A very limited number of travel bursaries will be available.

UNESCO organizes competition on HIV/AIDS reporting [Brazil]

Journalists who covered HIV/AIDS issues in 2017 can compete for this award.
The HIV/AIDS Investigative Journalism Award is an initiative of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Cásper Líbero College.
The categories are print, online and audiovisual (video and radio) media. The winners of each category will participate in the workshop "The last push to end AIDS" April 12 to 14 in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Cape town Jazz festival offers journalism workshop [South Africa]

Journalists and journalism students are invited to an annual arts journalism workshop in Cape Town.
The Cape Town International Jazz Festival presents a training program for journalists and photojournalists. The program will take place March 17 to 24.
The workshop consists of two parallel courses: arts journalism and photojournalism. Participants will receive guidance from experienced arts journalists and develop transferable skills that can be applied to any arts topic in the newsroom.
The course is available free of charge for selected candidates. Candidates from outside Cape Town are responsible for the costs of their own travel and accommodation.

Funds offers grants for investigative journalism [Worldwide]

Investigative journalists can apply for a reporting grant.
The grants, sponsored by the Fund for Investigative Journalism, are intended to support investigative projects that break new ground and expose wrongdoing – such as corruption, malfeasance or misuse of power – in the public and private sectors.
The maximum award is US$10,000, which should cover out-of-pocket expenses such as travel costs, document collection and equipment rental. The first half of the grant is given once an application is approved and the second half is paid when the project is complete.
Proposals must come from U.S.-based reporters or international journalists whose stories have a U.S. angle, involving American citizens, government or businesses. Stories must be published in English.
Proposals must be submitted in English and include a detailed budget.

Excellence Award recognizes reports on Media Industry[US)

Reporters, editors and teams of writers who hold a mirror to their own industry for the public’s benefit can apply for an award.
Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications seeks entries for its 2018 Mirror Awards, a competition honoring excellence in media industry reporting.
Categories include single articles, profiles and commentary, each in digital and traditional media categories. Each award features a US$1,000 prize. The John M. Higgins Award for Best In-Depth/Enterprise Reporting features a US$5,000 prize.
The competition is open to anyone who conducts reporting, commentary or criticism of the media industries. Eligible work includes print, broadcast and online editorial content focusing on the development or distribution of news and entertainment. Entries must have been published in 2017.

Documentary filmmakers across the Arab world are invited to participate in this festival.
Middle East Now is looking for talented film directors to present the real face of the Middle East through their films. The festival will take place April 10 to 15 in Florence, Italy.

AAJA accepting entries for mentorship program [US]

Students and professional journalists can apply for this journalism fellowship.
The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) organizes Voices 2018, a program that features hands-on training and mentorship to provide aspiring journalists with skills to succeed in today's media landscape.
The fellowship includes covering the AAJA National Convention Aug. 5 to 11 in Houston, Texas. Participants will also attend 10 remote meetings and produce a longform, in-depth news project over the course of the summer. 
The program is also accepting journalism professionals interested in mentoring student participants.
Candidates must have a strong commitment to AAJA’s mission.

The Department of Journalism at Wits University is accepting entries for the Taco Kuiper Award for Investigative Journalism.
The contest recognizes outstanding examples of journalism that reveal untold stories, hold the powerful to account and question those in public life in South Africa. 
The first place winner will receive ZAR200,000, and the runner-up, ZAR100,000.

Pulitzer Center launches Peace reporting grant [Worldwide]

Journalists in any medium are invited to pitch a story on an underreported nonviolent response or peace effort.
War Stories, Peace Stories (WSPS) and the Pulitzer Center have launched a grant program for peace reporting in international conflict areas.
Pitches should illuminate peace efforts, nonviolent resistance and reconciliation in areas of conflict or extremism. 
Three projects will be selected to receive between US$5,000 and US$20,000. All three winners will present their pitches live to a panel of judges at the War Stories, Peace Stories Symposium on April 11 in New York. One of the journalists will receive an additional US$5,000 award.

Journalism Fellowship funds writing projects [US]

Print and online journalists in the United States with less than 10 years of experience can apply for a fellowship.
The Robert Novak Journalism Fellowship funds one-year writing projects committed to advancing constitutional principles, a democratic society and a vibrant free-enterprise system.
Projects must include some reporting component: interviewing sources, travel, attendance at newsworthy events, etc. 
Full-time fellows will receive US$75,000, and part-time fellows will receive US$35,000. 
Submit a fellowship proposal, work samples, resume, budget statement and references.

Periodismo Cide organises investigative journalism program [Mexico]

Aspiring investigative journalists can register for this course. 
Periodismo CIDE is organizing a certificate program in investigative journalism Feb. 17 to June 30 in Mexico City.
The training, featuring 26 investigative journalists and academics from Latin America, aims to teach the necessary skills to practice investigative journalism.

Kyr]gyzstan: US Embassy seeks applications for Media Project

Journalists who are fluent in English from Kyrgyz broadcast and online media organizations can apply for this program.
The U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic is accepting applications for Media Co-op 2018 – a two-week intensive work and travel program.
The program is sending a team of one broadcast reporter and one camera person to the United States to produce a documentary, original TV show or news program on jointly planned topics related to economics, democracy or security.
The organizers will cover travel, accommodation, meals, medical insurance and miscellaneous production expenses.

Undergraduate and graduate students ages 18 to 25 who are committed to a career in journalism can apply to attend this conference.
Future News Worldwide 2018, organized by the British Council and media partners, will take place July 5 and 6 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The event aims to help young people develop journalism skills and establish the United Kingdom as a global leader in the nurturing of young journalists and media figures.
Attendance at the conference is fully funded for successful applicants, including airfare, accommodations and meals.

CONNECTAS School seeks applications [Latin America]

Working journalists residing in Latin America can join this free initiative.
CONNECTAS, in association with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), has launched the third edition of CONNECTAS Virtual School. The initiative seeks to enhance the investigative skills of Latin American reporters.
The online course will start Feb. 5 and last four weeks. Participants will work on a detailed methodology that articulates teaching materials produced by leading organizations, which work to produce more and better journalism in the region.
Those who successfully complete the training can apply to become members of CONNECTASHub and submit proposals to the Initiative for Investigative Journalism of the Americas.

Prince Claus Fund offers grants [Lebanon]


Cultural and artistic institutions working in Lebanon are invited to apply for grants.
The Prince Claus Fund, in partnership with the AM Qattan Foundation, is accepting applications for "SELAT: Links through the Arts."
The program offers EUR15,000 (US$18,345) per grant for new projects aimed at enhancing the cultural life within the Palestinian communities in Lebanon.
Priority will be given to projects that raise critical awareness and discussion on cultural topics of special importance to the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon or promote dialogue and constructive communication between the Palestinian refugees and Lebanese society, among other goals.
Independent initiatives or groups may apply for this grant under the umbrella of an active cultural institution registered in Lebanon.

Thomson Reuters Foundation organizes tour on reporting climate change [Russia]

Aspiring journalists with an interest in covering climate change and the green economy can apply for this program.
The Thomson Reuters Foundation organizes a press tour "Reporting Climate Change" for journalists from Russia, which will take place Feb. 19 to 23 in the United Kingdom.
The program is an intensive five-day trip that provides participants an opportunity to meet experts, journalists and officials as well as attend seminars.
Fluency in English is not an obligatory but desirable.
The Thomson Reuters Foundation covers travel, accommodation and meals for selected participants.

Young, midcareer and professional Journalists can apply from all over the world for excellence in reporting and communicating issues related to food security, sustainability,  agriculture and nutrition award
The Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition (BCFN) and the Thomson Reuters Foundation are launching the second edition of the Food Sustainability Media Award, an international contest that recognizes journalistic excellence in reporting on food from a different perspective and turning the spotlight on food sustainability.

§  Hunger & Obesity: for every undernourished person there are now two obese or overweight people in the world;
§  Food & Fuel: a third of agricultural cereal crops are used to produce animal feed or biofuels despite hunger and malnutrition;
§  Waste & Starvation: 1.3 billion tons of edible food is wasted every year, four times the amount needed to feed the 815 million undernourished people around the world.

The winning published work in written journalism and multimedia categories will receive a €10,000 cash prize.

Pulitzer Center seeks entries on Pitching for Peace competition (Worldwide)

Journalists, writers, photographers, radio and podcast producers and filmmakers; staff journalists as well as freelancers are eligible to apply.
War Stories, Peace Stories (WSPS), in partnership with the Pulitzer Center, invites journalists working from any platform to pitch a project focused on an underreported nonviolent response or peace effort in an international conflict area.
Three projects will be selected for Pulitzer Center funding. The level of support will vary between $5,000 and $20,000, based on travel and related costs associated with each project. All three winners will present their pitches live to a panel of judges at the War Stories, Peace Stories Symposium on April 11, 2018, at the Times Center in New York City. One of the journalists will be selected for an additional $5,000 award.
WSPS seeks pitches that illuminate peace efforts, nonviolent resistance, and reconciliation in areas of international conflict or extremism.

Tsinghua University offers scholarships for global business journalism program [Worldwide]

English-speaking journalists worldwide can apply for a global journalism program in China.
The School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University offers a master of arts degree in global business journalism, which seeks to train future journalists who can help the public understand the complexities of global business and the economy.
The two-year program, a partnership between Tsinghua, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and Bloomberg News, is fully taught in English. Enrollment in the courses is about half international, half Chinese. 
A limited number of scholarships are available to top applicants.

The Economists offers internship program [UK, US]

Aspiring journalists interested in science and technology can apply for this internship.
The Economist is accepting candidates for the Richard Casement internship in London.
Interns will spend three months in the summer of 2018 working for the science and technology section of the magazine.

The intern will receive a stipend of GBP2,000 a month.

Sanlam Awards calls for entries on Financial journalism [South Africa]

Journalists working in print, online or broadcast media can apply.
The Sanlam Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism recognize and reward exceptional business journalism in South Africa.
Categories include individual business/companies, economy, financial markets, consumer financial education, African growth story, newcomer, lifetime achievement and journalist of the year.
Works must have been published or broadcast in 2017. With the exception of the African growth category, only stories published or broadcast in South Africa are eligible. Stories originally published in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation.
The winner of each category receives a prize of ZAR20,000 while the overall winner receives an additional ZAR35,000, and the best newcomer merit award amounts to ZAR20,000.

IWMF offers Journalism grant [Worldwide]

Women journalists can apply for this new fund.
The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is accepting applications for the Kim Wall Memorial Fund, established in honor of the award-winning Swedish journalist who covered important, underreported stories from around the world.
One US$5,000 grant will be awarded annually to fund stories on subcultures, broadly defined, and “the undercurrents of rebellion," carrying forward Wall's legacy. Grantees will also be paired with a mentor to assist them in their reporting.
The fund may cover reporting-related costs including travel (flights, ground transportation, drivers), logistics, visa fees and payment for fixers/translators.

Center for Environmental Journalism offers fellowship [US]

U.S. journalists interested in environmental issues can apply for a nine-month fellowship in Boulder, Colorado.
The Center for Environmental Journalism at the University of Colorado is accepting applications for the Ted Scripps Fellowship.
The program brings professional journalists together with leading environmental specialists. Seminars, field trips, classes and in-depth research
will help participating journalists better understand key environmental issues.
Five fellows will each receive a US$56,000 stipend. The fellowship begins mid-August and continues into mid-May.
Applicants must have at least five years of journalism experience. Prior experience in covering the environment is not required.

Hélio Alonso University offers international journalism courses[Brazil]

Students and journalists interested in working with international news agencies can register for this course in Rio de Janeiro.
The Hélio Alonso University (FACHA, in Portuguese) will offer the course "International journalism and news agencies" 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. over six Saturdays beginning April 14.
The course will cover the relations between international news agencies and Brazilian television, based on the interest of the global news market in events in Brazil; news production with potential for repercussion abroad, introducing monetization and distribution practices; the commercial value of news coverage: hard news, breaking news, broadcast pools and reports; and content produced by citizen journalists and its commercial value.
The instructor is journalist Maria Angélica Dias da Cruz.

The  seeks applicants for its professional and student photography grants, which aim to help photographers produce substantial picture stories that further the foundation's goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding.

The winner of the professional grant will receive US$20,000 for the production of his or her proposed project.

Competition focuses on human interest reporting [US]

Print, broadcast and digital journalists can compete for an award.
 The Meyer "Mike" Berger Award, administered by Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, recognizes reporters for an outstanding example of in­-depth, human interest reporting. 
Entries must have been published in the United States in 2017. In the case of an ongoing story, work that appeared in January 2018 will be accepted. Journalists who report in a foreign language must submit copies of original stories with an English translation.
The winner will receive a US$1,500 prize at the School’s Journalism Day ceremony in May.
