ACP GROUP OF STATES HAILS THE PEOPLE OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA FOR A HISTORIC DEMOCRATIC PROCESS

Image result for ACPBrussels, 5 September 2017/ ACP: The Court process that has just concluded in Kenya and the Supreme Court’s decision on 1 September constitute a remarkable and historic moment for Kenya which signifies the Country’s democratic maturity as well as the perfect functioning of democratic institutions.
The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States would like once again to commend the People and the Government of Kenya for the renewed commitment for democracy and rule of Law for which Kenya becomes an inspiring model.

The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States applauded Kenya for holding peaceful elections conducted through the national electoral process held on 8 August 2017.The ACP acknowledges and commends the parties for following the established legal channels to address concerns on the electoral process. It applauds the People of Kenya for the patience and restraint it has exerted during the Court process and commends H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta for appealing for calm and respect for the rule of law after the judgement and during voting process.

The ACP Group is convinced that the People of Kenya will demonstrate the same sense of commitment during the forthcoming Presidential elections and, in so doing, ensure successful and peaceful elections. The ACP Group calls on all concerned to work together to ensure fair, free and credible elections.
The ACP Group remains committed to promoting peace, governance and democracy in ACP States and stands with the People of Kenya as they once again go to polls to reaffirm Kenya’s democracy./
